Time to put up or shut up for Obi and Julius.

Obi is on a team now where he will finally get a real opportunity, with a PF position that it up for grabs and where he fits well. So its up to him to take advantage of it and show what he can do. It’s a contract year also so I expect him to be very motivated. Now or never.

Julius has no exciting fan favorite backup looming behind him anymore. Maybe the fans will embrace him a little more again, but he needs to prove hes worthy of these All Star/All NBA accolades and show up in the playoffs next time. Become more of a leader and positive influence. The organization picked him, so he cant let Obi outshine him in Indiana. Let em know they made the right choice.

I'm seeing it all over here. People are describing a player he isn't when they're describing him. I mean, I like Obi. But, like, how is he that much different from Derrick Williams?

To me the biggest mistake happened last season when the team missed the playoffs. I remember they were like 24-34 with 24 games left. The team was essentially out of the playoff picture and was dysfunctional on many levels. It was the perfect time to shut down Randle who was at odds with the fans, team and his game. Any rational, functional, smart team would have shut Randle down and gave Obi 24 games to see what he can do and at worst increase his trade value....all the way while trying to get to the 6th pick, which was possible at that time. The Knicks being the stinking franchise that they are went on a completely meaningless late season push, getting to 37 wins, destroying their own draft position. Obi got like a little run in the final two weeks which despite good play, didn't do much to increase his trade value.

Typical Knicks...idiotic decision making.

The answer is we don't know. Remember Obi was supposed to be a very good midrange jump shooter. How many shots did he shoot from there? Not many. I'm not as high as other are on him, but he is a strong athlete, has solid touch and is among the fastest guys on the break. I do think like 16points/7rebounds are possible for him.

i'd even argue derrick williams was actually much more productive for us as well. he actually deserved minutes

This is going to be one of the worst trades of the century for the Knicks.

Obi was a really good player. He was amazing depth. Who do we have now that fills his spot?

I mean atleast make this trade in draft night and get a first.

So so so so bad

Who ever the pacers gm is he been hosing franchises lately.

His handle isn't good enough to create that shot but if you could find him open there, I guess he could make more.

Derrick Williams was the #2 overall pick. He was exciting to watch as a highlight dunker. But didn’t play defense, couldn’t pass or rebound, inconsistent as a shooter. And he was a tweener who didn’t really fit either position. Sounds super familiar. Look at his career and it’s easy to imagine Obi heading the same way. What can change? He’ll be turning 26 during next season and this is who he is. Derrick Williams was 24 when he played for the Knicks and out of the league by age 26

I liked watching both players dunk though

Obi is too good of a player for that. Really disappointed at us getting merely two 2nd round picks.

jacob toppin aint gonna get no damn minutes. the hell are you talking about ?

Hey man, sometimes I have hot takes. They ain't necessarily always on point. I've watched too much ESPN and FS1.

A rookie who never got a real shot and development.

Time to move on onto the next head coach. I see how some of these championship head coaches really coach their young players and puts them on a good position to succeed. Now, Thibs on the other hand, some of you get what you deserved. Don’t come here complaining how this franchise and Leon sucks. Good luck to Mitch trying to play defense on his own.

So months ago, i could have sworn there were rumors of the Knicks potentially trading Toppin to the Pacers for Chris Duarte.

A few days ago, Chris Duarte was traded to the Kings for draft compensation.

I wonder if the Knicks passed on Chris Duarte because they were so enamored with Donte DiVincenzo and the potential of uniting all the Villanova guys.

Duarte would have filled a similar role to DiVincenzo and we'd still have the MLE to spend on a back-up SF/PF.

Maybe the Knicks really feel like Barrett and Hart can withstand playing extended minutes at the 4.

Will definitely not miss the times RJ could've lobbed it to Obi on the break and kept on dribbling to the perimeter.

I also like David Lee as a comparison. David came into this league without many offensive skills or even defensive skills but got by with pure hustle. Like people talk about Toppin and energy, but David Lee had the ability to run and also grab those offensive boards and play with hustle.

Then we have David Lee who also turned himself into an all star. He never became a great defender but he was ambidextrous, above average at the line, able to playmake, play off the pick and roll, and shoot.

Just feel like Obi never matched David Lee in terms of hustle and improvement.
