What i don't understand is if Melo does go to the Nets, he said himself he wouldn't sign an extension with them so why are the nets pursuing this?

Is it possible that he will sign with the Nets if he gets traded there?

Melo old agent is behind all this nonsense. He doesn't even rep Melo anymore. He just wants one more payday and NJ is desperate enough to listen

What do you mean? Reports are that its his new agent that is pushing to get a deal done since they havent made a cent from Melo yet?

Maybe I'm wrong thought I saw different.

If the Knicks are getting Melo it's not Bye Landry it's bye Wilson Chandler. As much as I don't want to see him go, Denver has made it clear they want talent back.

They also do not want to see Melo join a superteam. So that's why they want Al Harrington to NJ, to prevent NJ from picking up Chris Paul. The face of your franchise is leaving, of course Denver is being sour about it., the don't want to see Melo win a championship. So they want to put him ina bad situation to win in NJ.

I'm pretty sure Denver can dump Al Harrington to Cleveland, a team that has trouble scoring and is desperate for some talent.

Is melo that desperate for the money that he would allow Denver to put him in such a situation? he still has the upper hand, just tell them lose me in the offseason. They'd buckle and trade him to the Knicks. Beggers cant be choosers.

I simply do not see it. Chandler, as great as he has been, has nominal value in a trade given his RFA status. I don't think Denver will take the risk especially given his statement about the distaste. Would a third team give up something significant for him? Maybe a contender? But would that team have the goods to appease Denver? I am sure Dallas would be interested in Chandler, but what can they give up?

I do not see Chandler involved in Melo trade.

I coulId very well be wrong but the reports of that are wrong its 80% paid for us not the team that gets him. I could be wrong but the reports where wrong I read back on the reaf lafrenez situation a few years back

Realistically if all we have to give up is one of Chandler, Fields or Gallo and then nonrotational assets ie AR, Curry, Azubuike, Mozgov, 2014 first rounder, you have to pull the trigger and thank your lucky stars. I would be willing to take a bad contract too if that means I can keep two of Gallo, Chandler, Fields. As much as it would be sad to see a youngster go, it would be a fantastic trade for the knicks.

NY Trades: Curry, 'Buke, Gallo, Mozgov, Mason, Douglas, Randolph/1st, 2nd, and $3 Million
NY Receives: 'Melo, Harrington, Carter, filler

Maybe Denver will compromise and take some assets plus huge cap relief for 'Melo and we get to keep Fields and Chandler...

I still think D'antoni is too loyal to Gallo to let him be dealt.

With Gallo's injury and struggles this season, his value has hit an all-time low. Hopefully this injury heals his shooting hand though.

Any team that wants to dump contracts away should be looking at Cleveland anyway. With the injuries they have and lack of talent. They wouldn't mind taking Al Harrington.

This whole trade is being driven by Leon Rose & World Wide Wes - the leBron team of agents. Recently Chris Paul left his agent to join the group.

Carmelo & Rip Hamilton are represented by them - explaining why Hamilton is a necessary part of the deal.

If they pull this off, look for Rose to arrange to have Paul go to Nets in the off season.

The Nets will be in Brooklyn in 2 years - so if Leon Rose succeeds, it may be bad for the Knicks.

That's why Denver wants NJ to take Al Harrington's contract. To prevent that from happening.

According to that Gametime video yesterday Denver only saves one million having Favors and Murphy and they are already 13 million above the luxury tax. Denver trying to dump a freshly traded Devin Harris, Billups, and Free Candy on another team to actually get below the luxury tax is doomed to fail when you have other teams in a holding pattern and they get tired of waiting. At this point Denver should look only at expiring deals a la NY's expirings.

Does that mean they have already discussed deals with NY - or that they will begin to talk trades?

Good Point...... and that is why NJ is resisting. That Al contract will be almost impossible to deal since it is so long.

They didn't begin trade talks. NY has asked them what they wanted but Denver hasn't told them yet.

it all depends on whether or not 'Melo is willing to hold out until the off-season and sign here then or if he wants something done before the deadline.

So IMHO Denver wants to hamstring all the clubs involved and come out looking like a rose to their fans and the rest of the league. And again I reiterate all Melo hasta say is I WANT NYC PERIOD

That is my understanding too, but I don't think they can pull this off. First, the league won't move Paul to Nets as long as they are the owners. They have to wait until 2012. Second, Hamilton's contract will still be there. So we are looking at Farmar + Outlaw + Hamilton + Melo's max. Which brings it to 43.9 million just among those four (assuming Melo at 20 mil). Moreover, they have to sign or lose Lopez.

So they have to make many more moves to unload Outlaw and Farmar, convince Hamilton to opt out and sign a longer but cheaper contract and meanwhile tell Melo it will all be good one day.
