The situation as it stands though... it's as though a house has a problem with its electrical system so the owner decides to hire a plumber... and a damn good one! and then is dumbfounded that the house still has problems.

Didn't get the hire at the time. Don't really get it now. Unless, as already mentioned, the Lakers are playing the long game here and are convinced Dwight will re-sign.

I think Lakers management pretty much wrote Gasol off at this point. Bear in mind that if Gasol stays and Howard signs that extension, Lakers' next season payroll will be around 100 million which corresponds to (assuming current luxury tax line at 71 million is there) 82.5 million dollars in tax payments.

Shedding Gasol's salary by itself would reduce that amount to 16.25 if they are not taking any salary back.

Here is a trade idea that might work:

Bucks trade Udrih, Dalembert, Dunleavy, Tobias Harris
Lakers trade Gasol, Blake, Sacre, Johnson-Odom

Lakers get all expiring contracts dumping Blake and Gasol going just above the tax line for next year if Howard stays. Heck they can shed Artest and be under the tax line and add another MLE instead. They also get a three point shooter in Dunleavy and a young player in Harris. Dalembert becomes backup center. Udrih is a more capable backup PG.

Bucks get a big man and makes a run for it for the next two years.

Did my morning ritual, turned on my computer, sipped on my coffee, read my emails, and caught up with the day before browsing to this website. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the Wiretap article, and consumed it, and immediately went here. I just wanted to see what it was that we had to say about this. My KnicksGod, this guy really is something else. I can only wonder what Nash must be thinking of this guy. I mean, Nash is a great player of his own merit. One of the best PGs in this this era, but unfortunately his merits will also be lumped with this chump, due to his success. While some of his success has to do with Antoni's system, I feel it doesn't really paint a picture of his body of work. I don't know if it's too late, but if I were him, I'd want to go elsewhere, and see if I can continue succeeding on another team, without being under this prick's shadow.

Absolutely hilarious he wants Gasol to shoot threes. This guy don't bend for no one, huh?

Wow. I must admit, through his years here I gave him the benefit of the doubt on many occasions. Wouldn't call myself a supporter or an apologist though. There are fundamental principles of his "system" that I like, and I think they would work on a Championship level. Let's keep it real, we're seeing a lot of those principles at work in our current team. Woodson, unlike D'Antoni, can actually LEARN from others.

Anyway, my point is that this is RIDICULOUS. The quotes are just on a completely different level. I honestly never thought it would come to Gasol taking more 3s. That's just ludicrous. As many others have said, I'm glad he's not our problem anymore...

On a side note, what would Phil Jackson have won without the greatest player of all-time in Jordan along with a superstar in his own right in Pippen during the 90's? Add guys like Rodman and Kukoc and I guess it's safe to say that it was pretty hard to not win with those teams. Same goes for Phil Jackson having what could be the 2nd greatest player of all-time in Kobe Bryant (top 5 for sure). So, lets not talk about Phil Jackson being a great coach anymore, because without great players... He'd be nothing, right? (mocking you).

Well, they'd better move him. And soon. I'd be pissed as hell if I were Pau. And he seems to be just that. Even if they can pull it together, that locker room is going to be poison.

Pretty much this.

Management, coach, and players were going in three different directions last year. We're seeing that with LAL right now.

More than anything else, I just hoped that we'd pick one direction and we did. Having Wood, Melo, Stat, and Grunnie on the same page is a godsend.

At a certain point you have to start working with what you have instead of trying to completely change a players style. Gasol is in the later years of his career and pretty much is what he is. Teams are going to give him that corner 3.
He would be best used at the high post for either a pick and roll/pop because that's where he has made his money in this league. You cannot squeeze water from a stone.

I can just imagine D'Antoni running the Bulls teams. Ron Harper would be running the team, Rodman would be shooting 3's, Jordan and Pippen would be providing spacing for Cartwright/Longley

I definitely was among one of the first D'antoni "haters"....I called for D'Antoni's head early in his second year here.

That said I have to admit that certain aspects of his offensive philosophy have been adopted by good teams (as someone pointed out). I think the ball movement+quick decision+3points shooting/spacing is a good recipe for success ON THE RIGHT TEAM. That said his lack of defensive focus etc. and failure to adjust to his players make him a bad coach still.

As for Gasol...the guy isn't gonna survive the trade deadline. He is just no fit there with Howard around. It's pretty obvious. At 32 years of age the Lakers should really write him off and trade him.....Bargnani and Calderon aren't great but Bargnani is one of the few stretch 4s in the game that can occasionally defend ok while Calderon is decent insurance and a good PG to provide Nash with rest.

I think a Bargnani in the right situation , shooting open 3 pointer off Bryant and Howard could be an asset. With Nash,Bryant,Meeks,Calderon,Artest,Jamison,Blake and Bargnani the Lakers would have a bunch of solid 3 point shooter to surround Howard. It's questionable whether it'd work on defense but at least offensively they'd give D'Antoni maximum spacing potential...

I hardly think MD is flat out stupid. I'm sure he sees the same thing that every casual fan sees, but the problem with D'antoni is that he's obsessed with proving his system works. He's not about the team and about doing whatever it takes to win, he's about MD and his system.

This guy really should not be coaching professional basketball. He's a much better fit with a college or high-school team where he gets to pick and choose his personnel and doesn't have to make any adjustments.

Dantoni is a top 5 coach in this league, sick of all the hate he gets in this forum.
