He just guaranteed himself an extra $1.6 million by taking the MMLE and adding the 2nd year.
The 1st year, it makes no difference as the Lakers are paying most of his salary to add up to about $7 million.

I believe, per the offset rules, he actually does get a bit extra my taking the mmle but not the full amount extra that is over and above the minimum.

That would be my ideal ending to this offseason. I dont think West will be signed though.
