My biggest problem with Fitz is we pay him then Geno wins the job AGAIN. If you can't beat Geno out in practice then how you feel you deserve 16 million a year?

Let's look at Fitz career. He was in a contract year with Bills played well enough to get paid then cut. Same with Texans and us. He always plays well in contract seasons then he gets cut. He doesn't have a really big arm. He choked. A very good insurance policy but not a starting QB IMO. DeMarcus Russell would have looked good on this team last season. Good O Line, good running game and top 2 receiving duo in the NFL. It's not like Fitz found out something this late in career.

The Raiders
Browns
And a bad Dolphins team

You want to name the receivers he had that year too for context for just how bad our team was as well.

Your actually right.

Sign Foles as a back up and let's get done with this stupid drama over a below average quarterback already.

Prob 2-3 games better. He's a good fit for the Jets.

I'm team Geno Smith all the way.

- Geno never had Chan Gailey or Todd Bowles.

- Geno never had Brandon Marshall or a healthy Eric Decker.

- Geno had Stephen Hill and Clyde Gates starting at WR with an inept coordinator/head coach.

- Fitz had a cupcake schedule last season.

- Fitz is in his mid 30's and has been a journey fringe starter across his entire career.

- Geno's in a contract year and is by far the better athlete with the better arm and greater potential.

- Fitz is a game manager. If we're not dominating the LOS, we can't win a game. Geno's arm can theoretically win us games.

- By neglecting to sign Fitz, we can add a piece or two for THIS year and be players next year in free agency.

- By signing Fitz, we're forced to reconstruct contracts and handicap our potential in next years free agency.

Let Geno get a chance with Marshall Decker and Forte please. I hate IK, we wouldn't be having this convo if Geno didn't get jaw broke

We have around 6.5 in cap space remaining after signing Lee.

Give me Foles and Hester and lets go to work.

Fitzpatrick will take an incentive laden deal with jets. His market has dried up. Jets played this pretty masterfully I must say.

Reading through this thread it has made me reconsider some aspects of Genos career. I still don't think he'll be more than a backup/fringe QB but there have bern strong points made about how he hasn't had all the tools around him to be successful.

We aren't winning a Super Bowl this season. Everyone has to know that. To me it's stupid to persist with this Fitz drama. Let Geno play and see if he actually has any ability. He's got weapons. The line isn't the best but the skill players are excellent. If he fails you know he truly sucks. If he lights it up you've got a young QB to build around and another talented prospect in Hack. That's a decent spot to be in. Another year of Fitz does nothing to help this franchise going forward. You don't learn anything about Geno and you waste valuable cap space if you sign him to a multi year deal. Move on. He's not effing Elway, he's a bum who put up decent numbers with 2 great receivers bailing him out and then choked when it mattered the most. F*ck him. He's delusional.

Geno is trash too, he'll never improve his IQ, dumb as bricks.

Anyway come on down Foles.

You can probably live with two years of Fitz. The Jets are built to win now. Once that window runs out they have to go in the tank for a QB.

You can't live two two years of Fitz if he's making $10+ mil next season and you're already gonna struggle to find money for Sheldon Richardson's extension.

One year or bust. Or two year with a minimal cap hit in year 2.

The way deals are structured, he could probably get a deal that includes 20M for this year and 5 for next with some incentives piled in. That deal makes the Jets some money since next year Petty should be an adequate back up and one of Hackenberg/Petty should emerge as the heir. Fitz can always stay on as a back up and the older WR options will fade. It would be a natural rebuild/retool in a few years.

Im not a Jets fan, but its idiotic to not make sure he is there considering he is a locker room leader and exactly the kind of guy you want around the likes of Petty and Hackenberg.

There is no reason Jets should not be competing to win their division. As a Steelers fan, I can tell you that if it were not for Berfict, we'd have had a great chance to be in the superbowl (dude broke ALL of our best players). Patriots have a rough schedule, are without Brady for long enough where Gronk might have to carry more of a load. Gronk WILL get hurt forcing other guys to have to step up again. Patriots defense isn't all that great and offense has significant holes. With Fitz and the Jets defense they have a reason to be thinking playoffs.

On the other hand, if I am Fitz, I am sitting out knowing that I am not risking my body on concussions and I can have career #2 as a coach whenever I want. He can wait for the inevitable Romo injury and try for a bowl there. Possibly get into Denver once Sanchez buttfumbles again. Plenty of good opportunities. Heck if Brady goes down, maybe you will see Fitz and the Pats!! Perfect way of saying "shoulda paid me".

It's definitely an option but he has to decide if it's worth risking $15 million guaranteed.

Only we would want to bring back a career journeyman who has never made the playoffs and is 33 years old with a noodle arm. The Jets should just cut the cord already with this guy and let Geno start.

As a bills fan I can say with condifence that Fitz sucks. I know everyone is down on geno, but i dont think hes really gotten enough of a chance. He prolly sucks too, but id rather roll the dice on him than go with fitz as my starter.
