The dream is refs let Frank actually touch his assignments without being whistled for phantom calls and Thibs starts trusting him with more than 2 minutes a game. He is the only Knicks defender capable of slowing Baldie down. Elf's defense against Trae pick and roll will have us playing from behind every game and that isn't sustainable.

I feel like the Hawks are being slightly disrespected going into these playoffs. They've been playing good ball and they are going to pound us on the glass night after night. But their defense has always been suspect and we are a team that battles for all 48 minutes.

Knicks in 6 unless someone abducts Elf before the series starts.

your not going to completely stop Trae Young...he will get his.

But he might be the worst defensive player in the NBA. The knicks should try to isolate nearly every possession to go right at Trae Young and make him defend all series.

IQ makes him work on that end. Payton does not.

So proud of this team and what we were able to accomplish. We also got the best possible matchup for the first round. As long as we don’t underestimate the Hawks we should have no problem advancing. Let’s enjoy this one guys.

Underrated storyline:

RJ gets his first taste of the playoffs at 20.
IQ gets his first taste of the playoffs at 21.
Obi gets his first taste of the playoffs at 23.

Mitch is unfortunately injured, but for those of us (like me) who always wanted to build through the draft, this is huge.

Good point and I believe Randle’s only 26 and getting his first taste

Trae Young when guarded by Payton this season

January 4th: Trae Young 4-10

February 15th: Trae Young 2-6

April 21: Trae Young: 1-5

Total combined for the season: 7-21 (33% FG)

This is basically the only matchup Payton is good at defensively apparently. So maybe we can survive this with Payton starting. Just trying to be positive here.

I wouldn't change the rotation if I were Thibs. Silly to throw players off their game. He's already shown he's willing to move on from Payton quickly.

I am psyched for this, and I love this team, but I hope the Knicks aren't in anyway overlooking this opponent (luckily I think we are built not to overlook opponents). The Hawks have one of the best records in the East since switching coaches and they will be really good for years to come. They are talented, big, fast and deep - and this runs 1-5 with a reasonably decent bench. I am not suggesting the Knicks cannot/should not win, but just noting that if the Hawks had played the way they have over the last few months for the whole season they would be right in the mix for the 1-3 spot.

Anything to track assists though? I feel like when Payton guards Trae another defender often has to come help him because he gets beat so much leaving someone else open. Namely Capela lobs.

Yes I can give you the assists too

January 4th: 5 assists
February 15th: 2 assists :o
April 21st: 3 assists

Seems like Payton is actually doing a good job on Trae

Are those just Trae's assists with elf on the court? Cause Trae had 14, 8 & 14 assists against us.

gotcha. Do you also have the minutes that elf spent on him? Curious what those #s look like per36.

This is pretty telling stat on the other end... ATL is +7 when Payton is in. Taj is the only other noteworthy player for which they are positive (+7.5, Frank and Mitch are too but each only played in one game against ATL). All other players ATL are negative (i.e. Knicks positive +/-).
