Here’s how Thibodeau described the Knicks’ approach to Robinson’s rehab:
"He was here for most of the summer. When he did go home, we sent a trainer with him, we sent a coach with him. We sent basically three people (with him). Because he’s that important. And all our players are. I think going through a rehab like he’s going through, I think it’s important for us to be heavily involved. And he’s responded.
"It’s not easy to go through a long rehab. That was the one thing that Derrick did before, for three consecutive years. So I know the challenges that go along with that. There’s a physical challenge, there’s also a mental challenge. You’re away from your teammates, that’s not an easy thing to do. So we wanted to make sure he got through that.
"And the staff we have, Aaron Brooks was with him a lot, Kenny Payne has been with him. The whole staff was involved with him. And he’s really grown. Not only the physical part, but who he is; he’s much more confident. I think he has a great understanding now of the league, what goes into it. So we’re anxious to get him back out there."
