I don't think there is necessarily anything wrong with someone having it (don't see a major advantage). Unless you spend all that time updating rosters I don't know the specific value it has, because Bish provides us with all the screenshots in terms of ratings that we need.
The biggest positive of having the sim? No more rotation spreadsheets with issues bish needs to guess on. Now I just get the screenshot. Outside of that there's no real benefit. NBA.com > the sim. I started playing 2k a lot again as well and I do my own ratings for 2k so I'm very intimate with the raw numbers of most players in the league.
I love my excel spreadsheet. I have all these different iterations if someone gets injured..
