1/2 a decade of 28 year old Josh Hart ladies and gentleman.

Young Sam Rose gets a new lambo and we now have

A roster of seven players under contract for a combined $129,232,268 (130) - Brunson, Barrett, Hart, Randle, Robinson, Donte and Grimes.

IQ resigns at 18-20 brings the payroll to ~$150 the super **** you apron is $190.

For a team without a top 10 player on the roster.

The math isn’t bad and won’t be bad until we get to time to re-up Randle/Brunson.

SelbyCobra wrote:Because he opted in for this coming year, the Hart contract extension doesn't kick in until 2024. The projected cap in 2024 is just short of $150M, I believe. That makes this a 13.5% contract, which is a very, very good deal for the Knicks if Hart is simply a positive contributor. If he's more, then it becomes a steal.

Other deals in recent history that Hart's deal is slightly under in terms of cap impact:

2014, Lance Stephenson (IND), 3/$27M - 14.3%
2016, Eric Gordon (HOU), 4/$53M - 14.1%
2017, Mason Plumlee (DEN), 3/$41M - 13.8%
2019, Bobby Portis (NYK), 2/$31M - 14.2%

To put it in perspective, Fournier's contract with the Knicks was a noticeably more burdensome 16.2% deal, Derrick Rose's Knicks contract from 2021 was a very similar deal at 12.9%, and the 4/$65M the Kings gave to Huerter in 2022 is even more comparable at 13.1%.
Best post in any Josh Hart thread I've read today.

Exactly

I would argue it's the 1st or second best bench in recent Knicks history.

This backcourt depth can't get enough ferocious with the IQ, Grimes, Brunson, JHart and DD additions.
We're a backup 4 away from being in that scary team area code.

Scary how they all turned into ghost during the playoffs

Brunson?

I remember Jerome James signing for like 7 million a season, and it being disastrous. Now 20 mil per is in the shoulder-shrug range.

And then trading for Curry same off-season :noway:

And then never playing James more than 10 MPG

And neither made it through their Knicks contracts :banghead:

Instantly most overpaid Knick. After RJ.

The two pivot points in last season were:

1) Benching Fournier and starting Grimes;

and

2) Josh Hart joining the team

Both changes produced immediate results in our competitiveness and W-L record

Or maybe they're giving this roster one more year to make a run before making major changes.

No, you were right with the first one.

But no to George and Harden. Who are too past this core group's average age.

There's going to be a much younger star wanting to play with Brunson and crew. Some max'd off of his rookie extension right for the picking uber talented but disappointing stud. One who never rooted himself in his city, but publically wants the bright lights of Broadway.

Hint: his name starts at the opposite end of the alphabet. 8-)

I think IQ's days are numbered.

maybe if the star trade emerges this year but if not they're gonna have to pay him rather than lose him for nothing.

knicks better hurry up and find something though because they're only gonna have grimes on a rookie scale deal and a bunch of picks that aint gonna be much. they had 4 rookie scale players last summer. now they have 2.

edit - just saw this in another thread. make that 1 rookie scale player.

knicks assets starting to look like a 2 pack of ass

1 rookie scale guy is insane

The only way this Hart deal makes sense is if he's a starter, giving him this much to be a bench player, then giving Quickley $20-24 million to be a bench player as well would be idiotic. People saying our books are clean are not really paying attention, teams don't want a bunch of roleplayers on big deals, DDV and Hart are here for good now, once IQ is extended he'll only have value as a starter because he could outplay his contract. He wont be able to live up to the money as a bench player.

Let's also not forget the average NBA team salary going into 2023-24 is over $160mm, and the salar floor is over $120mm. Any playoff team is going to be around the luxury tax mark of $165mm and likely over it to some extent. We punted on talent consolidation this offseason, so there will for sure be pressure to do something over the next 12 months.
