To me, Meet The Grahams was the pinnacle.

The pinnacle of savage dissing probably yeah it is. Not something I see myself listening to down the road or anything, not the most enjoyable thing to listen to

its too much.

even the part in euphoria where he hits him about being a deadbeat dad with all the "you know nothin' 'bout that" is uncomfortable as hell. it actually makes me feel bad for drake and his kid. i don't believe you can make enough money or smash enough baddies to mask the pain of being a shtty father. that's a shame that no amount of outside sht can fix.

Rap songs over a dark piano loop have been a staple for a minute, I listened to Meet the Grahams a bunch. But, I also heard these when I was younger

I watch battle rap though, and the Kendrick vs Drake stuff wasn't too bad. This is is some of the opening bars from Arsonal in a battle to someone whose Uncle actually died, this is face to face.

But I'm glad your uncle dead, fathead
He wasn't nothin' but a knucklehead crackhead
With a head full of ringworms and a face full of blackheads
He deserved to get caught in the crossfire when that MAC spread
And if God gave him a second chance at life, I'd wish him back dead!

Where as Tupac vs. Biggie was more West coast vs East coast, Kendrick vs. Drake has evolved to be more Black American culture vs. all culture vultures who try to exploit Black American culture for personal gain.

Hence the term “They Not Like Us” which has a deeper meaning that reverberates more with Black Americans (as did the Super Bowl performance), because others outside of The Culture may have the deeper than surface level elements going over their heads.

Did Drake take offense because he is mixed race?

Drake takes offense to everything. Cuz he a tenderloin.

The research, the skill level, the details, the intimacy written as speaking directly to Drake’s family members.

No one really plays diss records for enjoyment. Once the shock value ends you’re really just valuing it for historical reasons and nostalgia. It serves as a musical landmark in career trajectories.

whats so impressive is he hit on all 3 levels with meet the grahams, euphoria, and not like us. the shock, the art, and the entertainment. the range as an artist.

The thing is Kendrick is a real spawn of hip hop. He’s not a rapper. Rappers are made. Hip hoppers are born. That’s the difference.

Drake emulates and duplicates. Kendrick… Kendrick creates.

Drake is talented as a rapper/singer (a pop artist) but the reality is he was manufactured. Which is why he needs ghost writers.

Where as you can tell Kendrick came through the rigors. There’s a process to this schit:

• It starts with your mom & dad’s life experiences that shape and influence YOU

• Then it moves on in the form of YOUR life experiences

• Then it’s those sleepless nights at your kitchen table alone, scribbling words in your marble notebook, talking to your inner self

• Then it’s your best friend you confide in, that you tell you got rhymes

• Then he believes in you and tells ninjas at your school

• Then the crew demands you spit for them. …and it’s HOT :onfire:

• Which leads to banging on lunch tables making beats and spitting verses, until an acquaintance from another friend group thinks his man is better, and can top you

• You battle and body his man, …now you Top Dawg at your school

• Now it’s running on your block and meeting a challenge from somebody there until you the hottest in your hood

• Next thing you know, you got your boro and then your city on your back, and now you getting free studio time and free beats cuz everybody believes in you

• Lastly, since you rep the hood right, cats who put in work on the street see you as a hood representative, and now you can’t be touched without repercussions. So now you not just good in your hood, but you can move around cuz your hood representatives got reach (they name ring bells in other places too)

…Drake didn’t go through those rigors, man

Took the time to listen to "Euphoria" because it was mentioned many times here. Kendrick is right, this Drake is a man uncomfortable in his own Blackness and it shows. I wish I could find the video, from well over a decade ago, where the way he drops an N-Bomb is like a child looking around after he says his first curse word seeking the validation of the adults around him to know it was okay to say it.

Forced, unnatural, and quite frankly, pathetic.

I'm not familiar with either artist to be honest.

But if I was Drake, the last thing I would doing is initiating a "hip hop beef" when I starred in a Canadian Teen Drama TV Series ("Degrassi").

IMO, I think the superbowl halftime show was a perfect encapsulation of where we are as a country right now.

Trump is nuts, hires Nazis, does actual evil stuff, his platform is one of hate.
Kendrick is talented, legit battle rapper, but THE FANS are invested in the drama, the poison same as the Trump fans.

Just a lot of acid in the air right now. I don't like Drake's music, I think he was a made star, mediocre talent propped up by the industry after his acting gig. The Drake hate is getting a little gross.

Not part of the question of this thread, but seems like an appropriate place, if any, to put a thought like this. I feel like I'm in Ghostbusters II sometimes with the oooze that feeds off the negative.
