This is the vibe you give off, talking about NBA defenses and how a discussion with a Buddhist monk in a monastery in Nepal opened your eyes to the dangers of motion offenses.

Perplexing, this is why the Knicks need to run more pindowns as it offers a balance of stillness and motion. Everything needs balance to find true purpose, MJ Burks embodies all of these philosphies" - Cha

KAT is a C- at best. He is highly overrated. He is a major liability on defense. Likes to play faceup to the basket on offense despite having zero mobility. The elite teams have showed that they are able to shut him out of the game. He needs to get the ball in the paint more and post up with his big body. In close games in the 4th, we almost have to play perfect becae it's an easy bucket in the paint against us because of him. We are in cap trouble because of his deal as well. When you factor in his salary he may be worse thana C-. As much as I disliked Randle, at least he was on a much better deal. Towns is not the needle mover to get us past the second round. Hope we can trade him in the offseason.

you mean they shut Thibs out of the game.
and I will post my vote as soon as I have the time but "C"? No sir. I have watched almost every single game. Kat has aspects of defense that he doesnt do well but to call him a major liability is false.

If Mitch doesn't come back in shape and play well enough (and uninjured) for the remainder of the season to get us into the 3rd round, do you guys expel him? Does Leon?

What did I just read? I urge new posters to please think twice before pushing that submit button. Have you watched a single game this year? Are you some kind of troll?

C- at best? The man's having one of his best seasons, made the All Star team as a starter, just had back-to-back 40 pt games, and is a top 5 contender in the MVP race. I'm not saying his defense is good but C-?

This is such hyperbole. He is a liability on defense yes. Which elite teams? Boston you mean? what about all the other teams we played this year. and then to compare him to Randle is just absurd. This board is so reactionary and extreme. Towns passing, shooting, attention from double teams etc has made our offense move much better. Do I think it should be more than it is currently of course, but the hyperbole of your analysis saying C- at BEST is why fans have no clue what they are talking about.

The guy is back peddling in the paint. Thibbs didn't teach him that. He has zero lateral movement and has stone feet. Anyone who has some speed on him can shoot at will against him. He's so slow that he needs to play two feet away from opponents on the perimeter. All he can do is attempt a lung block that is zero threat to block a shot. The knicks have to play a zone man when he's out on the floor when the 5 is spread out to the 3. KAT can't close out on rotation because he's slow as heck, so he switches to the guy closest in the paint and forces someone else to cover. Precious is a pf who has to act like a center. Why we don't have hockporti in to play center during this time is crazy to me.

When you're paying someone max money and isn't moving the needle to get us closer to the chip you're going to be happy? These stats and our record are misleading. We're pretenders right now.

Your assessment is trash. KAT is a HUGE reason why we are winning. Randle couldn't sniff his jock strap at all. Also. Randle wanted max money. We would be trash without that trade and his deal was set to expire soon enough. That trade was pure brilliance. Unlike your take on things.

Do you think all players should be two way? Offense and defense? Melo, Brunson, RANDLE, all huge defensive liabilities but the make-up of the roster is coherent. OG, Bridges, Hart, Deuce, MITCH with Thibs is the foundation of a solid defense.
Edit: We have been underperforming on defense especially perimeter defense and that is a huge issue as I stated earlier. but thats separate from the analysis of KAT on this team.

Not that I am entirely on board with all the big KAT love in here, but:
KAT is being used at the 5, not the 4. His defense might look different next to iHart/Mitch
Randle wanting a max is not really applicable here - no one is giving him the max so the best he can be is disgruntled that no one is paying him 50M.
KAT has changed the way this team plays on offense. The entire style is different. I am in the camp where it feels like empty calories. I don't know if he is going to elevate his game in the playoffs or in crucial moments and I don't know how much of a net positive he really is because, against playoff-level teams, he may be scoring at the same efficiency as he is allowing.

I was a huge believer that we needed to trade Randle before we had to pay him more money. I still think it was the right move. I can't give KAT an A rating when he is one of the worst rim protectors in the NBA. Maybe my grade of him will change when Mitch comes back and we no longer have to deal with teams getting open looks in the paint but for now we have to keep it real. You all are giving each player A's and b"s like we are real contenders right now. We are really bad on the defensive end and that begins with KAT. To be an A you need to play both sides of the ball.
