I thought they would have been a good fit last year. It seems like Kevin Durant just embodies 'ball is life" at this point of his career. And he's ok with taking a backseat and letting Brunson have the entire spotlight.

But... now sure what the deal would be now if you can't include KAT.

I wonder what the details were at the deadline. Were the Knicks actually considering trading KAT??

Does Robinson and Josh Hart get us there?

Yes, trading Mikal, Hart, and Robinson for a 36 year old KD math wise works...but it would be comically bad for the Knicks.

Using spotrac, I've only been able to get trades to work with KAT for KD

Couldn't figure out any with Mikal or OG

Also, if the team decides the 5-out experiment is not worth doing anymore with KAT, maybe the Knicks stick with Mitch and Huk as the primary centers next season

Talent level would be ridiculous with Jalen, Josh, Mikal, OG, KD, and any random center you could plug in

The problem I see is that Mikal and OG have already had a hard enough time giving up scoring opportunities to allow Brunson and KAT to get theirs first

We got Mikal and OG both posting allstar numbers ever since Brunson has been out. For both of them, it has been their audition to warrant more offensive touches in the playoffs and next season. Especially the fact that the Knicks are 8-5 in the last 13 games without Brunson. I think a lot of people thought this team would fall apart without Brunson and it just has not been the case.

How much can OG and Mikal sacrifice to win a championship? KD is a wing player who commands touches just like them. Mikal and OG will definitely be relegated to being 3&D guys if you add KD to the mix.

there's probably mutual interest between KD and knicks but not suns and knicks. only way i see it happening is KD demands only knicks or something which allows us to get him cheap.

i like Kat but I would trade him for KD because our window is short anyways. there's not a huge benefit to Kat being younger other than the higher risk of KD falling off a cliff or being oft injured the next year or 2. it's not like the knicks could move a 32-33 year old Kat to re-tool or rebuild etc.

KD would love thibs offense of just "give the ball to your best player to iso" - he hates set plays which thibs doesn't run at all.

It would have to be KAT, no? Or could they combine salaries? Thought that can't be done when over the 1st apron.

No it wouldn’t. What’s comically bad is trading 5 firsts for Mikal and we are now stuck with this team and very little opportunities to improve. KD raises our ceiling although it does create a smaller window but I’m not sure what other ways we can maximize the potential of this current core without tearing it all the way down and starting over.

According to spotrac, a trade would work under this scenario

KD to NYK
KAT to Phx
Dadiet (or any player making less than him) + 2nd round pick from Phx to a 3rd team

Hopefully this was just our FO doing it's due diligence and exploring every option, as they are want to do, rather than something they were really pushign to make happen.

A team already lacking depth, sacrificing even more depth for KD! What could go wrong?
