I don't agree with the notion that it's in Denver's best interest to drag this all the way to the deadline. Our offer isn't going to change, cause unlike the TMac trade, we're not in a position of desperation here. This isn't Isiah running the Knicks. Donnie isn't going to flinch, and in fact, we'd have more leverage over Denver by the deadline, especially if Melo conclusively rejects the Nets and we're the only team Denver can work with.

IMO, Denver's going to give one last shot to convince Melo to resign with the Nuggets, now that they're fully healthy with KMart back. Once they accept that Melo has a foot out the door, I expect serious discussions to begin starting within the first or second week of January and a deal finalizing by mid-January or MLK day. Not saying Melo will be a Knick, but he'll be traded to some team in January. Knicks just have to put out the best package.

I still fail to see what they said that was so offensive?

Add to that, they are talking to the Nets.

Drawing a total whiff on this one.

So?

I don't feel as if it has gotten in the way of the points/arguments I have made in this discussion.

If your premise has become punishing another team rather than simply improving yours, then by default it HAS to get in the way.

That's not my premise. My premise is, and always has been, to maximize our leverage.

Unless they feel melo will extend Denver should trade him now when his value is high at the deadline they will know their desperate I still feel like he wants to be a knick but I do have a feeling in the back of my mind that with Denver healthy and playing well he will be pushed to extend

I'd give up five firsts for Melo: Our 2014 first, 2187 first, 2345 first, 2432 first, and our 3969 first. Done and done. I'll even throw in our 4500 first to get it done.

they're not trying to make walsh flinch, they're trying to make melo. if they take this to the deadline they're hoping that melo wants the extension enough to resign with them or go to jersey. since there does seem to be some belief that he wants the extension it's not a bad gamble.

So what vilifying Denver (my original question) have to do with maximizing leverage?

Are you suggesting that the Knicks demonstrating that they're really, really ticked off at Denver improves leverage?

What sort of amateur hour do you think the NBA is?

I vilify Denver because I think they are stupid and it's fun to me. What does that have to do with anything? Is it immature? Sure, but it doesn't stop genuine conversation from happening.

I was listening to Brian Tierny( I think that is his name) filling in for colin cowherd, and he was saying that word around the league with GM's is that most feel that the nets FAvors is not a star type talent , so what is Denvers infatuation with the nets package? Honestly, I think the last thing denver wants to do is trade carmelo to the knicks, regardless if the knicks have the best offer or not. All of this talk seems so invasive and they probably despise us at this point..

I think NJ might be offering their 2011 pick, which could be top 5. I think that has Denver's tongues wagging more than Favors. Favors is probably just Jordan Hill to them for all they care.

Can we throw in Eddy Curry's fat as a trade exception?

Exactly. Well put. The public knowledge of how Melo would walk to NYC and the whole weding toast thing when the owners where there just puts Denver in the frame of mind of letting Melo walk rather than trade him to NYK. The media will look at Denver as backing down to NYK if they deal him to NYK. I think its a dumb way of thinking but i Think its what is going on. It is not far fetched for those guys in Denver saying no way to a Knicks trade even if we gave them more than anybody else . I think they will regret it when they get a trade exception for Carmello from us in January 2012 when we sign him before the 50 game season

Dude there is no way they do a deal with us without Fields or Gallo . I wish to be wrong but it wont even be worth it for them if thet dont insist on Fields and then we gotta do it
