Not a done deal broski. Not even being reported as close.

Though again, I think once Melo finds out this is even in the works, he's going to want to get to MSG that much more badly.

Let's be real too -- Denver ain't gonna beat the Knicks' offer on a rental trade. I just don't see that happening.

I'm no Melo fan but I would definitely do that deal. I honestly don't see Denver wanting Wilson Chandler, though.

I would think Roddy B would be a better offer for them, and Cuban would make that deal w/o an extension.

i wonder about that too. it may be they've explored what they could get for chandler and will trade him themselves.

if gallo stays, then probably Melo will play the 2 here. i mean he is the same height as joe johnson or sjax.

KnicksGod wrote:This is not a Gallo thread but one other practical point on this: I'd much rather Gallo be showing a really superior 3-ball % like 42% or something, than that he's drawing fouls at a high rate so far. Drawing fouls is great and of course, you rather get your points on drives than chucking 3's (see 7SOL).

But, as far as a raw skill set to build on, I think that if Gallo was a really superior 3 point shooter, the rest of his game would fall in place. So far he's shown he's got a nice stroke, hits a decent percentage and can make big ones, but misses a lot of open shots and his % is quite far from great. It's just .368 which is nothing special to be blunt.

It's not HOW he plays but as an indication of his future prospects, a % over 40 would make me think that Gallo could blow up. Gallo will not be a great player unless he becomes an elite shooter because that would force defenders to overplay him.

His drives for fouls are great but I think you'll see that he can't make a living on that. You'll see defenses adjust. He is going to have to learn to make and finish those drives. You can't just keep drawing fouls. You have to be able to finish and keep defenses honest. Gallo can dunk a few early but I don't see him converting many of his drives. It's rare, though getting a little more common lately.

MD is a fool for wanting to base his whole offense on 3's, but I think 3-pt % will more or less give you a good idea of how high Gallo will rise.

I've got to say I have enjoyed reading this thread. Well argued and constructed. I see KnicksGod points and the one that makes the most sense to me is the argument of Gallo as a fit with Amare and Melo on board. So Gallo becomes the 6th man... no other way I can see the lineup working because I sure as hell don't want Amare at C. I'm a big Mozcubed believer. But the missing piece in this argument here is efficiency.

Gallo is by far the most efficient scorer or the 3. I wonder/worry about having 2 volume scorers that need to put up lots of shots to get their points. This makes Gallo more valuable for me than KnicksGod has given him credit for...

I guess if you have a rotation with Gallo subbing for both Amare and Melo, you get roughly 32 minutes a game for each player... with 16 going to Amare/Melo, 16 going to Amare/Gallo, 16 going to Melo/Gallo...ok I know it will depend on matchups and it is not going to work out like that... I bring it up just to illustrate and in a way give some credence to what may be KnicksGod best argument - how do the 3 of them play together and does it make us a better team.

Donnie must be up down and around and all over the place on this. One thing for sure... if we keep Gallo and Fields and get Melo.... and Gallo winds up being the odd man out and can't get enough minutes.... for sure, Gallo has the most value as a trade chip. More than Fields at this point in time. So if for no other reason than Gallo has more value to the team one way or another, I prefer to keep him out of the Melo deal.

more likely I see Gallo coming off the bench....I'm sure he'll be fine with that. He'll be playing starters minutes anyways. 30-35.

That is just not going to happen.

If you think people are screaming "A'ntoni" now, if Carmelo Anthony played the 2 it would be absolutely gross.

Realistically, Denver is getting rid of an All-Star who doesn't want to play there. Chandler has already come out and said he doesn't want to play in Denver ... Nuggets are going to take a lesser guy who has already said he doesn't want to be in Denver?

Maybe they spoke to Chandler already.

Again, I'm not convinced that Amare will stay healthy - so Anthony may end up at PF in the D'Antoni system.

Breaking News!

http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/ ... id=6094827

"The Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks are discussing a three-team trade that would make forward Carmelo Anthony a Knick before the Feb. 24 trade deadline, according to league sources.

In the proposed trade, New York would send Anthony Randolph and Eddy Curry to Minnesota and the Timberwolves would send Corey Brewer and a first-round pick to Denver. Denver would also receive Wilson Chandler from New York."

As stated earlier the deal breaker is Minny taking on EC. That saves Denver 20 Million, a number the obsessively penny pinching owner Kroenke is probably giddy about.

They also get to try-out Chandler and Brewer (Players they are high on) for half a season and see if they want to sign them. If not, they can sign and trade them for some assets. We probably throw in a pick or two and they try to pawn off Harrington in the end, but this is an amazing deal for us and vaults us back into the conversation of playoff contender imo.

Also KG why are you so obsessed with pawning off Gallo. He is the highest scoring fourth option in the league, on one of the lower usage rates, plays D, is clutch, stretches the floor for Melo and Amare, is adaptable to any role asked, and is only going to get better. Him, Melo and Amare will have teams in the penalty within minutes every quarter. He seems like the perfect fit, either at the 3 with Melo at the 4 or in the Manu off the bench 6th man.

C'mon... for certain DW is shopping Chandler to other teams to see what he can get that will be acceptable to Denver. I feel ... that's all it is.. a feeling, but a strong feeling - that Chandler knows he is a goner and his play of late reflects that.

The dude wants to play in NY and get all that money .... just like that other guy, but he is no Melo!

This comes from Chris Broussard... a pretty reliable source. This would be an absolutely great deal for us.

BUTTTTT... I predict Ujiri does another Nyet like negotiation and everyday we hear he is asking for more or something else.... I hope I'm wrong, but it is his MO.

If this goes down next week... we can turn to the other trades DW has as backups and get a fresh start for the remainder of the season... I'm very excited!

Great news! I hope this doesn't drag out very much longer. Our team needs a shot in the arm.
