kane2021 wrote:I remember this one beef back in 1992. PM Dawn had said something in a magazine about KRS-One. About being a hypocrite or something, I cant remember exactly what was said.
Well there was this show where PM Dawn, Black Sheep and Ice Cude was performing. BDP and half the Bronx show up. KRS jumps on the stage. Punches big dude in the back of the head. Takes the mike and throws him off the stage. Ice Cube takes off running. KRS goes into im still number one. Basically rushed dudes show, smacks him around, threw off the stage and took over the joint.
For what ever reason, Ice Cube later on decides to call KRS a hypocrite too. X-Clan, (and later das efx) decide to chime in.
Its a well known fact you dont **** with KRS. He'll beat you on stage, on wax and in the flesh.
With all this building animosity towards BDP,... they decide to drop the sex and violence album. Kind of a sarcastic response to the hypocrite claims. This album was not a radio album to say the least. On that album was a song named "we in there". It's in my opinion one of the most viscous personal character attacks ever recorded. Its a reference to the show ice cube ran from him.

Later he did a true free style remix where he bit Das EFX's style and just ripped em up.
Ice Cube never responded.

It's unfortunate KRS went so easy on Nelly. This story is great, KRS been my GOAT, no one embodies hip hop the way that dude did and does to this day. He keeps a written diss for the top 10 emcees on the billboards each year and I don't doubt that he'd cook anyone.

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread IV
Remi,.. KRS is my number one guy. Two reasons, I relate to him on so many levels. And his catalog and accomplishments speak for themselves.
A homeless teenager in the bronx. With a unique way of seeing the world around him. During the crack attack. Street smart, book smart and tough as nails. Gets taken into a youth center by a DJ. Together they make a top 5,... maybe top 3,.. all time record. That transcended everything at its time. Had the greatest and most devastating hip hop beef ever on it. (the bridge wars)
Him and that DJ/mentor start the stop the violence movement. And dude ends up dead trying to break up a street fight.
He take BDP by himself and continues to make historic music. And rip into anyone who goes against the culture.
I mean,... to be real,... ok Paid In Full was a better album than criminal minded. I give them that. And Rakim is a dope emcee. Legendary. But he never did half of what KRS did and never had to endure the type of stresses KRS did.
KRS ended careers. He ended record labels. He didnt set trends he started movements. And he would even go out looking for those dudes that he ended. And help them. Bring them back. Get them in on projects to get them back on their feet.
He's easily the best free style artist of all time. True free style. He would free style live, then take those freestyles and rewrite them to work on an album. His live shows were the best. Only the roots rocked a show better. And he's one of the greatest emcees of all time. People dont even know the half and still put him on their lists. He had an MJ killer instinct on the mike. To me there is none better.

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread IV
Hell yes! I was a young cat getting hip hop lessons from the older heads through names like Rakim, KRS and Big Daddy Kane. Those three were the ONES, but KRS was like a consistent voice while I was coming up. From My Philosophy to Sound of the Police to Still Number One to Step Into Da World, there was always something from KRS that I would bump constantly. I would watch dude's interviews and actually feel like he was imparting something on me. Dude was a role model to the my role models and I can't think of anyone else like him. The first time I wrote something, it was with the instrumental to Act Like They Don't Know bumping. The only other emcee that had a close impact to that was Nas, which is great because I was at Summer Jam watching Nas live for the first time and he brought out KRS...KRS performed his classic joints and lit the crowd on fire. The only other emcee that came close to his presence that night was Busta and I was over there tearing up and ish watching my heroes take the stage together (it rained hard while Nas performed One Mic, which was on some extra memorable tip). But at the end of the day, KRS and Nas were the two emcees that had the biggest impact on me besides the guys who I knew personally. KRS is my GOAT for one golden era (and overall) and Nas is my favorite from the next golden era.

Forgot to mention there's one other emcee who I go full super fan for, though I kinda started rocking with him later (after Lyricist Lounge drops exposed me to him)

Leave it to Drake to roast somebody and still have it bumping in clubs.

I know right? But to be fair when Drake actually raps he's super nice and he's better than Meek.

Re: Official Rap/Hip Hop Thread IV
Meek had no chance from the beginning. Drake has too many fans. He could have dropped anything and his fans would claim it was hot while claiming that anything Meek dropped was not. The fact that he took so long to respond, and then came out with that garbage cements his L...this beef is done. Meek better not drop another track.

Very surprised no one's mentioned Dre is finally dropping an album on the 7th...just announced it. Features from Kendrick, Em, Game, Snoop and more.
