Not sure if I have ever recommended these here, but Meat Eater, American Buffalo, and The Scavenger's Guide to Haute Cuisine by Steve Rinella were all awesome reads

Ian curious toseeif he continues and brings the 'magic' in the fully modern world in the next iteration (which i believe was the original intention)

The lies of Locke Lamora is a great book, then it goes down a bit. still planning to read the 'thorn' if and when it comes out.

I haven't read the Assassin Apprentice or the name of the wind, but i heard them mentioned a lot, so i guess i will bite at some point.

Another series that some of you might like a lot is The Blade Itself and the other First Law books, including all the standalone novels.

Read "Assassin" and "Name". They are better than Locke, and I liked that book.

ok then, i will queue them up at my library :)

follow up:
i finished the farseer trilogy, as a combo of reading and audio.

i liked it quite much, although i would say the first gentleman bastard book is better IMO. But unlike the locke lamora's books where the quality goes down significantly in the last book, these get actually better and the third was possibly the one i enjoyed the most.

i next downloaded Ship of magic, again as an audio/ebook combo. the premise is good, but the narrator is absolutely unbearable.
can't get past chapter 3, even after multiple attempts. i think i will try to just read the books at some point, especially if i can get my hands on a paperback (not a big fan of ebooks).
unfortunately i see this same narrator has 'performed in all the liveship trilogy books and the rainwild chronicles books (the dragons books). I will have to avoid those like the plague.

is it important to read the books in order? otherwise i could just jump to the fool's books

meanwhile i think i will get my fantasy fix by finishing the wheel of time books (never got past book 9)

also just read "the last days of night". a fictionalized narration of the AC/DC standard wars, featuring Edison, Tesla and Westinghouse, told form the perspective of westinghouse's patent lawyer. excellent book, especially if you like the period and topic (golden age of inventions).
if you do, i highly recommend Erik Larson's three books: Thunderstruck (Marconi vs Tesla and the invention of radio), Dead Wwake (the last crossing of the lusitania) and The Devil in The White City (a serial-killer detective story, on the background of the 1893 chicago world fair)

currently listening to neil gaiman's Anansi Boys, set in the same world as American Gods (also a good book)

I skipped the peripheral books and just read the main trilogies. You'll miss a little bit of the meaning of certain events in the last book (no spoilers) by skipping the liveship and rain wilds books, but I'd recommend just going on with Fitz's story

I read the Farseer Trilogy last summer. I loved the first two books but felt that the third one fell shy of the mark. I was expecting most, if not all, loose ends with be tied up at the end but so much was still unanswered/unexplained. I later found out this was intentional as the remaining threads were to be explored further in the peripheral trilogies. It irked me enough to put all of the subsequent books at the very back of my TBR shelf.

I read the Gentleman Bastard book one and two earlier this year. Absolutely loved the first book but was quite disappointed with the second one. The plot and the pacing was all over the place in the second book. Haven't bothered with the 3rd book yet. Don't see that changing any time soon.

I read them all and I'd say on the whole, it gets a bit repetitive in the plots and the I got tired of the series but read all of them out for completionists sake.

I've been making my way through Stephen King's collection the past 2-3 years. Currently reading Misery. Gonna try to finish the Shining before his new one comes out next month.

It is so far a brilliant read.

Fantastic Book! I plan on re-reading it in the near future.

Fun story (at least I think so) - I started reading that book a couple of days before Hurricane Ike hit Houston. I ended up reading it in the nights following the storm by candlelight. Yeah, I could have used the generator, but I was trying to conserve that, plus something about reading that particular story in that time period by candlelight seemed very appropriate!

Follett is good for those old English books. A Column of Fire was very good too.

Any Dan Brown fans? I just finished Origin. Wasn't his best book, but was his best finish.

I'm 20% through.

Interesting. Basically a lot of him talking about what makes a good and moral leader or leadership style. And every time he makes the point, you can hear that narrator go "You know, unlike YOU KNOW WHO". I haven't got to the part with Trump etc, as I'm in the beginning of the book but it's pretty obvious he's taking shots at Trump the whole time. Not that it's an obvious hatchet job. It's seems reasonable enough these are his views on what good leadership, governance and service are. But it's still sort of humorous to me how obviously that shines through. Aside from any political leaning one way or the other or feelings on Comey in general.

Big fan. Origin is the only one I haven’t read yet. GF has it / read it and thought was good, but not as good as others (besides maybe Inferno?).

I am not as far along as you yet (I'm just at the part where he is a young Assistant U.S. Attorney fighting the mob), but I totally agree. Trump is the subtext of the entire narrative thus far.

I am listening to the audiobook version, which Comey himself narrates. It makes it more personal, and he does a credible job.

Overall, I like it so far, but admittedly, I very much want to like it given my political bias.

Yeah Inferno was my least favorite, but to each their own. His research is just impeccable though.
