Now being black I can see why they would think of Posse meaning gang. But cmon...

I'm white but try and realize that white people (myself included) even if we try and believe we are not consciously racist, can subconsciously be. (basically what Mark Cuban was trying to say).

I don't really think there's much here tho. Posse? I mean, when I think of Posse I think of Wyatt Earp or some **** on Deadwood. If you want to use some racially coded language posse isn't even that good.

Thug? Sure. Crew? Maybe. But posse? Don't know about that.

That said, Phil is a **** moron for opening his mouth and critiquing James. Not what you should be doing as a GM can only hurt your FA efforts.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

Jim McIlvaine and Gregg Ostertag would be borderline all-stars today.

The quality of the game of basketball, in my opinion, is worse now than it was in the 90's. All this "freedom of motion" stuff basically prioritizes the skill of obtaining free throws which is the most boring aspect of the game. Furthermore, it increases the role of the refs to the point where their impact is surely felt.

I would prefer "ugly" basketball where it is a contact sport and players can be physical with one another. The refs actually allowed the teams to play in the finals a bit, and it was a lot of fun to see guys NOT shooting free throws and having to earn their points.

Regarding Joakim...

Love him on the team, he never has to play a single minute for him to have immense value. Having Noah out there in practice and on the side lines will do wonders. Never question that guy's heart. Noah, as a shell, as a ghost, is exactly what we need.

ostertag! perfect call. you feel the vein of guy i'm talking about. and i agree that ostertag is a little underrated. same team, i thought about mark eaton. but he too is far more skilled than given credit for.

i was trying to think of the guys whose skills no one vouches for other than size, yet were able to hang around in the NBA and crack rotations. countless guys.

as far as today's game, it's about the fans. the 90s really elevated the showmanship of the individual. the spurs are awesome, but people don't want to watch their games. they win the banners, but the league doesn't make money off of tim duncan like they do a selfish loser who entertains on the court. shame.

i'm not against showmanship. i'm from harlem. played at rucker, kingdome, riverbank, harlem park, 139th... you name it. half the game was creativity and flair. i get it. but i also enjoy seeing good team play and fundamentals. a lot of basketball fans don't know those things, so how could they be entertained by it?

Scot Pollard literally had no basketball related skills haha, but he was probably too recent for this game.

I totally agree with the showmanship stuff. I am not against it at all, but remember when And-1 meant something? speaking of Rucker park, I used to watch NBA.com TV (before it became NBA TV) and they used to show Rucker Park games during the summer. Those were fun, particularly the slogan "No harm, no foul.. No blood... No Whiiiiistleeeeeeee"
Of course the NBA is the opposite now....

scot pollard!!! nope. super valid. stands out more because he was on those kings teams with some of the most talented tall players ever (webber, divac, peja, even corliss williamson was very skilled).

i'm trying to think of a non-white guy. it's so easy to isolate white guys for this.

how about the bulls? scott williams. stacey king. i used to hate seeing those scrubs on the court getting win shares.

felton spencer. pervis ellison. pervis was skilled in college tho.

does kwame brown count? he was a big garbage man who did nothing but rebound... sometimes.

olowokandi!
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

Kandi theoretically was a good shot blocker. He's a bust for sure (like the others) but doesn't remind me of "stiff" though I could be entirely mistaken. Fab Melo to me was one of those "because he's tall" guys.

honorable mention:

Felton Spencer imo and Andrew Lang..... oh the good ol days!!

How about J.R. Reid?

Back in the white column Bryant Reeves, Shawn Bradley (the White Olowakandi!), Danny Schayes.

Call me a hater but always thought Dampier was a stiff. I remember when we got Jerome James, I was more just happy that we didn't sign Damp!

Scott Pollard was basically a less talented version of today's Steven Adams. He was an oddball that played hard and physical, had a nice combo of strength and athleticism (for a 7 foot white guy). He was actually good for what you needed him to do.

j.r. reid was a scrub, but he balled at UNC. and i was a little hard on olowokandi. andrew lang is a great call.

big country had some skill for his size, i remember. dampier was fool's gold. but he was a legit double-double threat in his "prime." jerome james counts, except that amazing playoff series that got him paid. poor shawn bradley. his skill was being 7'6". and a yam-on target. everyone wanted that highlight. i'd put manute bol in that same category, except philly missed out on a chance to use him as a stretch 5. hahahaa. dude had a couple games where he just hurled threes.
