A team would be paying big money for the 6th man version of NO Randle where he probably scores 20 a night beating up on 2nd units. His current price makes him unmovable in that regard. Like many have pointed out he legitimately struggles when the ball isn’t in his hands. It’s almost as if he’s not sure what his place is on the court.

The million dollar question is what would the Knicks have given him this summer if (a) they saw how much he would regress and (b) how much progress Obi would show.

Except they did know he would regress. It's called the playoffs. That's the litmus test of your value. And they still paid him based on his regular season production. Epic fail

I don’t buy that the knew he would regress. If anything, paying him a year early and going out and getting Kemba and Fournier to boost the offense is speaking to the contrary. This front office probably felt that Randle was setup to fail (to a degree with the lack of weapons) and invested in him by trying to plug holes in the boat. In their minds they could still get the “ALL NBA” Randle and possibly an even better version by equipping him with players to lessen the burden/weight of carrying an entire team in a playoff series.

Having said that Clyde, if they felt he would regress to THIS magnitude, extending him to 4/117 when Obi showed life in the ATL series is absolutely an epic fail I agree.

Evan also has never been less efficient as well.

Pretty sure the same goes for RJ.

with all of this being said, we're two games over .500

Yup. I've been bashing on RJ, but as I said in another post, mainly pissed that I thought he'd turned the corner but then he regressed hard. Repeating again, in fairness to RJ, not all progress is linear.
Still can't shake the feeling that without elite athleticism he'll always been kind of uneven because he can be scouted, he has to pick his spots to score, etc etc. Again, hope to be wrong. He's got height, he's strong AF and obviously a hard worker.

Leon Rose is waiting for your apology my guy!!!!!!!!!!!

For what you exclamation point wielding moron? :D
I"ve been a supporter of the Burks being resigned/signing all along.
Other than that, L. Rose and co have been "ok".
They've set a path where they "wait to be judged" in part on how this year plays out (in progress) and if/when they land the key player via (mostly likely) trade within the next two years.
So far, good, but not great.
TBD
And
EABODs :D

You clowned the fo for their past two drafts!!!!!!

We’ll it’s looking like they hit some home runs!!!!!!!!

Idk why you’re getting mad at me for calling out how wrong you were!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But he already had regressed between the end of the reg season and when they offered him an extension. Rationalizing WHY he was so bad in the playoffs is not an excuse. When you pay someone over $25M a year they had better be a playoff performer even when surrounded by armless midgets. He was a big fat zero.

And you're right. Obi was better than Randle in the playoffs. Go figure

Flip flopping and exclamation points is what you do.

I never said the drafts were bad. Well, ok, I dumped on Obi pretty hard.
I just stated that after Frank/Knox/RJ they had to be perfect/genius level.
They were good.
It's more an indication of how Frank and Knox set the team back, along with RJ just matter of fact being kind of ordinary as a #3 pick, which is really just bad luck. Or, lack of the FO making a HIGH level draft move to recognize that projected fact and trading back from #3. Which, again, most teams would not do.

I actually have 95% defended this year's draft against the angst ridden posts Knicks should have drafted some tall wing guy whose name I forget. I'm not even sure if this draft was good or not, but at least I understood what they were doing by trading back. How they rated all the remaining players, getting an extra 2nd, pushing the salary of an unused pick into the future, getting a stash player to manage the cap and have a cost free asset. Meanwhile, 1/2 the board understood and the other half lost their sh*t. You probably did both.

Question: faster developmental path. RJ as a player or TheGreenArrow as a poster?

I kind of like a few things that we see with Grimes and young guys get a pass, but he didn't exactly look great lol. Made some bad drives and doesn't look fast on D, but gives effort.

I just can't get behind Burks or Randle, but they both did good things. Randle's one good quarter helped win the game. Feels a bit unsustainable, but ....

Couldn't the Hawks use Randle? I think so.

We’re in a great spot if we can rehab Randle’s value and be a competitive team along the way because trading him for assets would be huge as we could be confident that Obi can step in and grow into the role. We have to waive Walker.

We can’t go back to Walker starting. It would be idiotic.

Grimes footwork is great on defense, he almost never gets beat and has a quick recovery. You also have to factor in that this is only his 2nd or 3rd game of his rookie season with meaningful minutes.

Which ever starter you want to hate on (Randle, Fournier, RJ, Mitch) it is obviously clear at this point that they all play better without Kemba. All the net ratings suggest this.

Kemba forces our starters to waste energy covering up for his defensive limitations and he can’t penetrate anymore so the offense stagnates. How many times does Randle pass it to Kemba just for him to pass it back because Kemba can’t beat his man off the dribble? Burks isn’t even a PG, but he gave us more penetration than we have seen Kemba do all season.

Kemba experiment was a solid gamble, but we have the depth this year to not let it ruin our season.

Start one of Burks, Rose or Quick, insert Grimes as the backup SG and use Kemba like Taj as a situation 3rd string PG.

It's not moving heaven and earth. The starting lineup was a terrible idea from the start. There's nobody in the starting lineup worth keeping for the long term and the only guy with any potential in it is RJ. So whether or not RJ becomes a star or role player isn't about moving heaven and earth its about going in a direction that we should be going in because where we are now is nothing but a dead end street

Scott Perry built the foundation of this starting line-up. Before last season, he had 13 seasons as a senior executive in the NBA - he hadn't reached .500 once.

So trust this foundation at your own peril. That includes Randle and RJ.

WWW drafted IQ. Thibs asked for Derrick Rose. Leon Rose drafted Obi. They (along with Burks) were the difference-makers last year.

In all honesty, RJ's been part of the problem more than part of the solution. He's my favorite Knick, but you (us, not you) have to look at him realistically.

Is Randle the solution? If not then why are we forcing everybody else to play his style? Where are we going with him?

Trying to fit pieces around Randle is how we ended up with Kemba and Fournier, those were signings made to fit Randle. We will continue to make dumb moves like that instead of just going in another direction.

That doesn’t even have to be building around RJ, we don’t even have to but like you mentioned the young players Rose brought in, but those are the same guys that fit just fine with RJ so that in itself doesn’t make RJ the problem

It's something that kinda worked last year, but that was not sustainable. They had a Y2K 76ers approach similar to when Larry Clown had the entire team of defensive role players buy in to support the inefficient offensive skills of AI. Ok so it worked with Iverson for a season or two way back when, but it's not a good strategy, and especially if you jettison your Ratcliffe, snow, hill, mckie types for offensive pieces that only get in the way.
