Re: 2023 New York Yankees Thread
I don’t get the admiration or the infatuation for Grisham! He is basically Joey Gallo with Harrison Bader’s defense. Punch me now if he was the major holdup in the Soto deal! Sure, he has an A+ glove but do we really need to continue bringing back the same outdated and flawed Brian Cashman/analytics philosophy of having a lineup of no contact/homerun/strikeout hitters?
I do not buy that Grisham is coming to the Yankees to be a part time player who will be nothing more than a 4th or 5th outfielder. Given that Boone has a strong obsession with lefty/righty matchups, I think it is fair to conclude that we will see Grisham in the lineup regularly.
The lineup already has the useless Stanton batting high in the order and a few young players who haven’t reached their potential. Why bring in a guy like Grisham to add to the offensive discrepancies?
One thing that frustrates the heck out of me is watching Yankee hitters whiff and miss out of their shoes when there are RISP as opposed to hitting a ball passed an infielder or making a productive out.
By acquiring a hitter like Grisham you already know that Cashman hasn’t learned a damn thing about having a balanced offense and is already setting this team up for more of the same problems.
I'll say this one time, I'll take a player any day of the week who can hit for average with average defense over a gold glove caliber fielder who hits below the Mendoza line!

Verdugo (L), Judge (R), and Soto (L) are likely the everyday outfielders. Grisham (L) has to go through arbitration and the Padres don't wanna pay him as they're cutting salary (hence, Soto's availability). Grisham is definitely the 4th outfielder at best and could be a decent pinch runner (15 SBs last season, 3 CS). Stanton (R) will stay the DH. Verdugo and Grisham are placeholders until Dominguez (S) returns mid-summer from Tommy John.

Grisham is not going to be just a guy that comes off the bench, not with the way Aaron Boone constructs his lineups. Against right handed starting pitching Boone is going to make sure that every left handed hitter on his active roster will be in the lineup that day.

If Boone is consulting with his analytics guys (and he is), he knows Grisham actually has a better career slash line vs LHPs than vs RHPs. Verdugo, Judge, and Soto have better slash lines against RHPs than they do against LHPs. Stanton is the opposite, but all of them still have better slash lines against RHPs than Grisham. Dominguez doesn't have much of a sample size since he only has 8 games in the majors, but his ceiling is with Judge and Soto.
Until Dominguez returns, Grisham will have plenty of time to fill in for rest, injuries, some days as the DH, and as a pinch runner.
And even if Boone puts all his lefty bats against RHPs in your scenario, do you honestly believe he'll start over Judge? If Grisham takes the DH spot from Stanton, he'll deserve it because it means Stanton is sucking again and I mean absolutely sucking since Stanton is given a lot of leeway with his exit velocity.

Mets fans. Talk shyt all summer. Start of 5-1 and act like they win the WS in April. June rolls around and the meltdown begins! There's always next year until there isn't. Beat it kid.

Not confirmed and others are saying he's still hasn't made his decision, but apparently a Dodgers insider says Shohei is going to the Blue Jays.

Re: 2023 New York Yankees Thread
Blue Jays dodged a bullet. 700 million for one player who had 2 TJ surgeries is insane. I would almost be happier if Ohtani signed with the Blue Jays for that much because it would nuke them financially.
Dodgers could have gotten both Soto and Yamamoto together for less and they are both under the age of 26 and have no injury history.

If the Yankees miss out on Yamamoto I wouldn't mind them going after Sasaki.

This has been in the know for a while but for Cashman to actually tweet this is wild. Swimmy Minami has a huge role in this, there have been scouts at every single of Yammatos starts, and Cashman was in Japan around the allstar break. Yankees need to wrap this up on Monday.
