I know alot of you are just trying to get ready for a major let down in what seems like the likely case of Monroe getting signed.

But if Phil does this, he's just not who I thought he was.

I'd rather pay a role player like DJordan 20 mil b/c he can rebound and block shots.
I'd rather pay Hibbert b/c he's an elite defender.
Hell, I'd rather keep Jason Smith for the minimum than pay Monroe $15mil.

Monroe may be the better all around player, but he's just a terrible fit with Melo.

I'll be very dissapointed if Phil signs this guy.

I think you pretty much summed it up in that sentence - plenty of ways to build this team. The M-5 squad is definetly a possibility: Mudiay Mathews Melo Millsap Monroe
Mudiay/Galloway/Miller
Matthews/Shved/Greek (or Ray Allen)
CarMelo/Brewer/Early
Millsap/Bass/Brand
Monroe/Lou/Aldrich

=> championship 8-)
This is an awesome line-up and I've heard Ray Allen's name mentioned more than once when it comes to the Knicks. Lou would love to stay with New York—providing he gets a 2-3 year deal. Your second unit definitely is a defensive one, which you can always throw in if the starters get winded early, lol!

I do want Tenacious to make the team during the upcoming season. This kid seems to be working his a$$ off and the Knicks need perimeter "D" in the worst way. Actually, they need defense from every area.

I get that Monroe's defense (specifically his lack of help defense) is a serious flaw, but his skill is waaay over-looked. I think he can definitely give us a young Al Jefferson type. Honestly his game isn't that much different than Okafor's and everyone fauns over him (and that's why I think the only reason you don't pursue Monroe is if you draft Okafor).

Getting a young and talented center in free agency is rare... he fits the triangle perfectly too. I can't wait for him to come to NY and just ball out (and probably be an all star in a few years).

Magic guarantees themselves Porz.

I might add 2018 first in a larger deal to get Harris. Though my deal would not be on draft night.

Sigh...

headline: NBA Rumors: Greg Monroe Will Sign With The Knicks Or Celtics

actual story: “there is 'strong speculation' Monroe will sign with one of those two teams."

Unfortunate that people don't know the difference between rumors and speculation.

I get the feeling he is just using us and will end up in Boston :nonono: . For $15 mil I'm not sure I want him. I wish there was a way to see into the future and know how much each player is getting so we could realistically see how we could build a contender without over paying. If he gets injured then what?

We should factor that in for anyone we bring in. Maybe instead of 2nd 2 tier free agents we bring 3 3rd tier free agents.

I saw a Philly Mod propose #3 for #4, Calderon, right to swap picks with NY in 2018. I hope Phil is looking into moving up with stuff like this. At worst we'd get Russell who is a better fit for the system than Mudiay.

While he's at it, Phil should call MJ and have a meeting with Melo about going to play with him. Bring Lance home and throw in Marvin+fillers and most importantly the 9th pick.

Trade the 9th to SAC with Early, cash, and a future 2nd for the 6th.

Draft Russell & WCS.

Sign Monroe

Galloway
D'Angelo
Lance
WCS
Monroe

THJr - 6th man

Boom! We are fixed

that's exactly what I meant. Monroe is an all around better 2 way player. But DJordan is head and shoulders better defensively and in terms of fit. they both rebound well, but DJordan is "fast twitch"---above the rim baller----a much better fit.....too bad he can't hit free throws.

lol figured it was too little. Although I'm sure there's something that could be worked out with them or maybe Denver for the 7th in order to get WCS. Maybe take back an undesirable contract, more assets going out, etc...hell Willie could still be there at #9.

I would love to see Greg Monroe in New York and, based on last season, Stan Van Gundy proved that Greg's position is center. Monroe is a huge double-double, back to the basket pivot whose man to man defense isn't as bad as some here make it out to be. Monroe has soft hands, is a superb passing big, hits his free throws and would, as you say, be molded into a stronger overall player under Phil.

I'd like to see Phil succeed in acquiring another draft pick. I can hear the boos already if and when PJ selects WCS with our #4 pick, yet I am not to comfortable with a PG who hits 55% of his free throws and has a feeble perimeter game, to boot. I see Stein as one of the most unique players in the game—defending every position on the court, emerging as that rim protector who adds double-digit boards to a front-court which would be very strong in this area, and that player whose incredible wingspan and athleticism would give the Knicks a DeAndre Jordan slam back, tip-in presence. Willie Stein's stock has been rising and some mocks have him at #5.

If Jackson does get that 2nd First Round Pick, one would imagine that Phil and/or his team of scouts may have identified a sleeper. New York could do an MRI of their team and find gaps everywhere yet I am unsure if the team's greatest need is even at PG as Galloway and Shved may be more than capable points. There is also Calderon...

I like the plan you're proposing even though I'm all in on Mudiay. The fact remains: there's plenty of ways to build this team and I trust Phil to build it the right way.

It took me a day and a close watch of Mudiay's work-out tape to change my mind about this kid! He is a BIG point guard whose jump shot looks better than Rondo's and everything else about his game is well above average, according to the scouting reports. Like you, I believe in Phil's plan—whatever it ends up being!

I would love the Knicks to get Willie Stein—if Phil can get a second pick, but it will be difficult to get a top 10 one for $3.5 Million, Calderon, and Timmy.

Yes.. Looking forward to seeing Phil do his thing. His hands have mostly be tied so far.

First thing he needed to do is what he did. Be patient, clear cap, sink and get a high pick in the good draft.

Stage 1 is the tear down and it looks like he did that.

Normally a team would want to stink another year but NY already has Melo and that's going to be huge for them. Specially since every team in the conference has to get past CLE and LeBron. Melo has the size to match up with LeBron and he clearly can score so they already have that covered and that's huge. That's a really hard piece to find. Teams tank for several years and have to get really lucky to find that piece and then they take years to develop. Melo in hand and experienced is huge. He just needs Phil to Zen Master his mind and turn him into a true winner.

Knicks need to pick quality players with the right personalities but if they do this right, they can jump quickly over the next two years and get right back into top 3-4 in the conference.

It might not look like it right now, but NY with Melo and IND with Paul George will be two the team to look out for.
CLE is already there.
Wizards if they land KD

That could be a pretty nasty top 4. In 2 years, the East could look every different and no one will be talking about how much better the West is since the East will have LeBron, KD, Melo and Paul George and that's pretty much the best SF talent in the league.

Teams like TOR will fall back in the pack. ATL will need to retool some. They will stay a playoff team but they will fall back. CHI has their work cut out but can stay in it but finally got a new coach. Gotta see how that works out. MIL is on the rise but the hill is about to get steeper.

So I see NY being top 4 in the next two years. Just have to have some patience.

i think our best bet for getting a pick high enough to land a guy like WCS or Payne or whoever is to take on a contract in return

in truth the best trading partner seems to be Cha

they may be desperate enough to unload Stevenson since they are keeping Jefferson now and are paying out a lot of $$ to those guys

take on Lance, send hardaway and get the 9th pick

Draft Okafor or Russell or Mudiay at 4, draft Porzingis or WCS or Mario or Kaminsky or Johnson or Payne at 9

lower down are the suns who always seem to want to shed salary and give up a pick
we might get lucky with pick 13
and lastly a team like the Mavs may be looking to dump whatever salary they can to lure LMA so pick 21 might be available if we take back Harris or Felton or someone. Imagine we take back Felton? man oh man

Return to New York Knicks
