What do you think about this FA???

Post#4142 » by Flo288 » Mon Jun 15, 2015 3:18 pm

Greg Oden??? He may be a cheap option to try and fill one of our big man problems. What does everyone think about him?

By the way, I am new to this forum. I enjoy reading everyones post!

Two year minimum, non-guarenteed deal.

Greg Oden with Willie Cauley-Stein or Greg Monroe, add a FA sg like Wes Matthews, Melo, then sign a good PG to run the show and we've got ourselves a nice squad!

Well, don't count on or expect Oden to play a min, or be effective if he does.

If we're going for centers decimated by injury - I'll take Bynum 7 days a week and twice on Sundays before Oden. I loved him as a prospect but "Peg Leg" Greg has just never had a healthy stretch.

I guess if you can get past Oden beating the hell out of his girlfriend, he'd still suck as an option. He turrible.

That doesn't like a bad price, imo. This is one guy I'd really like to see in a Knicks uni.

I been advocating for him for ahwile but that might be too much. Not that he isn't worth it but I think we need to add three key free agents. If he's getting 12.5 look towards Green or Mathews for cheaper deals first.

First person to bring him up and feel he can have a resurgence like Ilgusgust had in Cleveland.

and if he is getting normal 15% raises that 1st year salary would be around 10 million.

Year 1 - 10 million
Year 2 - 11.5 million
Year 3 - 13.2 million
Year 4 - 15.3 million

comes out to 50 million over 4 years.

I think thats what he's going to expect in free agency

it might be interesting to see what happens with Mathews as well since, when healthy, Mathews is better and might cost less

But Carroll is just the kind of player we need to be adding to this squad
10mil is a high price tag. For example thats Deng's cost this year.
But if he has room to grow he will be worth it.

Guys like him worry me considering age, etc. If we were legit contenders looking for a final piece, OK. But he is basically cracking $10mill based on one very good season which followed a few strong seasons. Like the player, not the price tag/years.

It took me a day and a close watch of Mudiay's work-out tape to change my mind about this kid! He is a BIG point guard whose jump shot looks better than Rondo's and everything else about his game is well above average, according to the scouting reports. Like you, I believe in Phil's plan—whatever it ends up being!

I would love the Knicks to get Willie Stein—if Phil can get a second pick, but it will be difficult to get a top 10 one for $3.5 Million, Calderon, and Timmy.

Yes.. Looking forward to seeing Phil do his thing. His hands have mostly be tied so far.

First thing he needed to do is what he did. Be patient, clear cap, sink and get a high pick in the good draft.

Stage 1 is the tear down and it looks like he did that.

Normally a team would want to stink another year but NY already has Melo and that's going to be huge for them. Specially since every team in the conference has to get past CLE and LeBron. Melo has the size to match up with LeBron and he clearly can score so they already have that covered and that's huge. That's a really hard piece to find. Teams tank for several years and have to get really lucky to find that piece and then they take years to develop. Melo in hand and experienced is huge. He just needs Phil to Zen Master his mind and turn him into a true winner.

Knicks need to pick quality players with the right personalities but if they do this right, they can jump quickly over the next two years and get right back into top 3-4 in the conference.

It might not look like it right now, but NY with Melo and IND with Paul George will be two the team to look out for.
CLE is already there.
Wizards if they land KD

That could be a pretty nasty top 4. In 2 years, the East could look every different and no one will be talking about how much better the West is since the East will have LeBron, KD, Melo and Paul George and that's pretty much the best SF talent in the league.

Teams like TOR will fall back in the pack. ATL will need to retool some. They will stay a playoff team but they will fall back. CHI has their work cut out but can stay in it but finally got a new coach. Gotta see how that works out. MIL is on the rise but the hill is about to get steeper.

So I see NY being top 4 in the next two years. Just have to have some patience.

Don't sleep on Miami, or a healthy Chicago team (who knows what will happen in free agency).

Sure. MIA would be in there but I want to see what happens with Wade. He wants to be paid but he is breaking down.

CHI...sure.. but I don't trust their owners. But looking forward to seeing the new HC.

What if Chicago got a Wade or Mathews to add to the roster?

I would be shocked if Phil bothered with these types.

Really looking forward to see what he does this offseason. His hands where tied before. Not he has cap to attract players and their are always players left available cheap in FA. NY with Phil is an attractive draw. I except to see some nice acquisitions.

Big Phil fan. Glad to see him back in the saddle again. Zen Man is the Man.

That is fair for him given the cap with be 90 plus Mill in 2016. The NBA is printing money. 11.5M for a starer like D Carroll is not to much.
