Brunson likes him. Giannis likes him.

The thought of Dame becoming one of my most hated players makes me sad.

This isn't happening.

the knicks couldn't say no to giannis but it really would take a lot of work to make it all fit no matter who they trade. luckily it aint happening. i'm not even really confident they can get kidd. i think we'll end up with coach bud or some vet coach nobody expects.

The reporting around this must be read very carefully, because doors that are reported to be anticipated to be closed are not the same as them actually being closed.

It is interesting that Bryant's name never seems to be coming up though.

If Bryant was the guy he would have been hired already. He might be a fall back option but he’s not the plan A or B

Exactly. And further....

if Dallas unequivocally was keeping Kidd they would have shut this thing down before the Windhorst report.

Kidd also has already strongly hinted he is interested in the Knick job. You don't make that public unless you are ready to leave your current job.

If I was Kidd I would have been incredibly pissed off at the Luka-AD trade. One of the principal, if not the only, attractions of coaching Dallas was being the coach of a team with Luka in/leading it. He's gone from having a team that reached the finals with a hobbled Luka, all right, with some luck, but with a decent chance to get back to a similar level, to some busted straight draw of a team with almost no chance of doing anything good.

If I was Kidd and offered the chance to coach the Knicks with JB and Giannis on the team I'd bite Dolan's hand off.

Just start each post with "Mods please temp-ban me" , then leave a line and make the rest of your post. Then hit the report button.

Just quote yourself, change the name to 3toheadmelo, and change the original text.

This is becoming like some **** you'd see on Rick and Morty.

he's the easy get that you claim brings championship experience when you can't really get anyone that great. he'll also bring a different looking offense. faster pace, more 3s, plenty of rest for guys. worst at adjustments than thibs though. it's a mixed bag.

Maybe we get Kidd while having to toss two 2nd rounders to Dallas.

Then Giannis asks out and lists NY as one of his preferred destinations. We work a 3-way or 4-way trade where we send KAT (to PHX or NOP or ORL?) and Mikal (to MEM? to SAS? to DET?) to other teams so MIL gets loads of young players and draft picks in return and we are left with a big-three of Giannis, JB, and OG.

I wouldn't put it past Leon/WWW to orchestrate such a scenario.

That's usually how firings work. You fire a guy or gal because they're no longer working for whatever reason. Then you search for the new guy or gal. Initiating a hiring process literally is the plan.

It sounds like in this case there was a process to gain full input as to whether Thibs was still working out. You clearly don't like the results of that process but this isn't some unusual thing like firing a coach of a playoff team right before the playoffs, which two teams did this year. That was wild.

It’s not just me though. It’s around the league that feels the same way.

Among the first reactions I heard via representatives from rival teams — once they digested the shock — was the oft-repeated notion that the Knicks have to have a replacement lined up if they were prepared to dump the coach who brought them their first sustained success of the 21st century.

All initial indications, however, suggested that the Knicks do not have a locked-in succession plan.
Which only added to the shock.

That's how some teams operate but that's not how the Knicks have ever operated. Any time we've had a coaching vacancy we've done a search, including when we hired Thibodeau. This is particularly the case because it sounds like the Knicks weren't certain about firing him until they conducted player interviews, meaning they just recently made the determination vs. having benchmarks he had to reach to stay. We weren't conducting a search in the background while he was still coach - which is actually respectful - and we have the whole summer to do it. There are actually a ton of guys out there right now and they're looking into who could become available as well.

Nothing really smells off about the process. It's the firing of Thibs itself that people don't like.

I just hope we have a backup plan if we don't get Kidd. It sounds like we're going all in on him, with no other coach in mind.

It’s going to be Kidd. Embrace it.

Trust Leon Rose.
