I think we should stay away from Melo at the 4 for longevity sake and defense

only if the cost of resigning Butler and filling out the rest of the roster makes him more expendable than he currently is

if Butler takes a 1 year extension or whatever he's looking at it might not hit the bulls pocketbook as hard which works against us

we don't really have anything of value to trade, only cap relief

Any truth to the rumor going around that the Kings and Nuggets are discussing Lawson and Faried for Cousins?

Is that at all related to the rumor that Vivek Ranadive is currently on a vision quest with nothing but peyote and a cell phone?

Carmelo Anthony Pushes Greg Monroe, LaMarcus Aldridge Deals
http://www.sportsworldreport.com/articles/53242/20150618/ny-knicks-rumors-dwyane-wade-signed-carmelo-anthony-pushes-greg-monroe-lamarcus-aldridge-deals-langston-galloway-andrea-bargnani-returns.htm

"Wade has been linked to both the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks in free agency. However, Ian Begley of ESPNNewYork.com is reporting that while a duo of Carmelo Anthony and Wade is enticing, the Knicks will not meet Wade on those contract demands. The team is looking to spend big on a defender like Greg Monroe, LaMarcus Aldridge or Marc Gasol while also looking for help at the point guard position. They will not be spending money on an aging veteran like Wade."

A new name to consider: Tristan Thompson

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/06/18/report-tristan-thompsons-agent-let-it-be-known-cavaliers-forward-wants-max-or-near-max-contract/

His agent has let it be known that Thompson wants a max deal, or close to it.

Cleveland traded away Andrew Wiggins as well as Anthony Bennett to get Kevin Love, who most likely will stay with the Cavs. Kyrie Irving's extension (18mm per season) kicks in next year, and they still need to think about re-signing JR Smith (who LeBron apparently likes???) and extending Iman Shumpert. Varejao will be coming back next year and his best position is probably power forward.

If the Knicks offer Tristan Thompson a max contract, Cavs might not be able to match. Thompson could play both the four and five for us, and in this modern NBA, an athletic mobile 6'9" guy with great rebounding and defensive ability is the ideal for the center position. Shoring up the interior would allow us to get away with a Russell or Hardaway on the perimeter more often.

Thoughts?

Eh, with Phil, Fisher and Melo available, we've got enough targets of the vitriol.

If any validity to this, and Melo/Phil would have an idea, what type of roster rounds out a Melo/KD forward tandem? Need some D and boarding from the 5 and an off the ball kind of point who can shoot.

Maybe sign Tristan if the Knicks sign Aldridge.

Didn't we learn from Jerome James and Eddy Curry? No thanks on the guys that play a good playoffs and want a max deal. Yes Tristan can get offensive rebounds and no, he can't do anything else. Heavy pass, wouldn't even spend 7-8 mil on the guy.

I don't there's a chance in hell he comes here, but because it's fun to dream:
PG: Beverly
SG: Danny Green/Wes Matthews
SF: Durant
PF: Melo
C: Mozgov

Cheap enough, realistic enough, and would fit Melo and Durant's skillsets and weaknesses.
