Re: [Camelo Thread Part 17] - Yo Melo, Whas Good Son!
fresh off the presses.. come get your fix:
Carmelo Anthony will go to the All-Star Game this weekend in Los Angeles as a member of the Denver Nuggets , a person with knowledge of the situation said. But although a trade won't happen this week, the source said the Knicks have "more of a sense of urgency'' to get a deal done for the four-time All-Star before the Feb. 24 trade deadline.
"They don't want to overbid," the source said, "but they also don't want to be left without a chair when the music stops."
...
Mike D'Antoni , two sources said, is putting up the most resistance against giving up so many young players. Donnie Walsh has long been in favor of adding Anthony, whom he has told confidants is one of the toughest players in the league. Team owner James Dolan , multiple sources say, is on board with making the investment to add another star to join $100-million man Amar'e Stoudemire.

Who do you think breaks it?
I say David Aldridge.

ESPN reported Friday that the Nuggets want Wilson Chandler , Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov , along with multiple first-round picks, from the Knicks. That's a steep price that has led to some debate within the Knicks' hierarchy, according to multiple sources.
I'd be willing to trade Chandler, AR, and Fields but Chandler, Gallo, and Mozgov in the same package is too steep of a price.

Nuggets want Chandler, Gallinari, Mozgov, Curry and picks + cash
Knicks want Chandler, Randolph, Curry, cash
I won't be surprised to see both teams settle on something like:
Chandler, Curry, Randolph, Gallinari, cash, 2nd rounders
I think Donnie and Mike are both reluctant to give up Gallo because of their history with him but something tells me Dolan will make them do it to get the deal done.

I think its inevitable we end up trading Gallo or Fields. Im ready to make the sacrifice. I think Donnie is under too much pressure to get this done and doesnt want this to drag out another 5 months. Im getting that vibe.

Yes. One or the other will definitely be gone if a deal is done. My guess is Gallinari since he's a better lead guy and more marketable to their fans.

Ok, so which of their two bad contracts do we want?
Al or Birdman?
And if we do that then they cannot have all three of our guys.
Wilson, AR (pick), Fields (or Gallo), Brewer, Bill Walker (I heard they like him) and two second rounders at most.

Either way Im good, cuz I love both guys. As a big Gallo fan I wouldnt mind seeing him play for another coach in a non gimmicky system.

Amazing how we went from Gallo and AR being untouchables to now being fine with both of them being traded. It just goes to show that preseason competition and regular season competition isn't close to being the same.

Yup.
And he may well be trying to hang on to assets and flexibility for the next GM if he doesn't get this done.
At this point, I don't care who as long as all three aren't moved. How cool would it be if we really played them out and just signed as a free agent this summer? Traded AR, Rautins, Turiaf and maybe even Moz and kept Gallo and Fields, signed Melo AND Wilson? We'd be a very, very dangerous team. And we'd have assets to re-shape the roster around Melo/Amare/Ray.
Probably a pipe dream Dolan won't allow to manifest.

And that things change. We gotta get Melo before he starts getting other ideas (ie: the Clippers, Nets...or even staying with the Nuggets). Can't wait to put him on NBA 2K!

They both havent broken out like most of us thought. I said this season would tell us alot about these guys and how far away they are. Gallo still has All Star potential to me, but he hasnt hit that 17-18 ppg mark this season like many of us had him pegged, aka the "2nd option". I dont think hes even a great fit for this system anyway. Randolph isnt even playing so of course his value is in the pooper. I thought he would bust out the most. While Chandler is a restricted free agent.
Either way I thought it was a good thing to see what we had in these guys. Didnt really get a chance to see Randolph though, and I still think he can be a good player, but Gallo/Chandler have a ways to go. We cant afford to wait around for them while Amare is in his prime. It is what it is. Donnie is just holding his cards close to his chest and is trying to give up as little as possible, but make no mistake he wants that 2nd MAX so he can retire in peace and get everyone off his ass
Im fully on the Melo wagon now. He'll prob end up being my fav player on the team b/c thats how I roll. With my luck tho we wont get him and Ill go back to bashing him ha!.

Assuming the deal is Chandler, Curry, Gallo, and Felton for 'Melo and Billups (in essence), then we would look like this:
Moz, Amare, 'Melo, Fields, Billups w/ Williams, Toney, and Turiaf off the bench. I think that's enough to at least get to the 2nd round.
Then you gotta assume that Billups may be bought out in the off-season and cheap pieces put in place to set up the 2012 cap space. I'm not a fan of having big 3's, but if it's there, I wouldn't turn it down.

Who plays PG then next season?
People have to stop with this 2012 stuff. It is very unrealistic, and we need to win games until then.

I've been wondering the same thing. Billups contract is up after this season so if we trade away Ray who will be our PG next year???
