I don't think so. It's gotta be higher than Novak's. If they were so concerned with money keeping Lin would have been their first priority.

It shouldn't pop into his mind, its not his problem. If the Knicks said they would match any offer, then why should that pop into his mind? Is he getting any of that tax dollars?

It could have been as simple as Melo walking past D'antoni and saying, Why not play the kid before you cut him".

but to me the simple fact Lin is treating it as accurate in his own words is pretty concrete on his belief of how it unfolded.

That's all that matters.

And that's fine that he believes it. Great. But it doesn't make it true when he doesn't even really know himself and he can only go by what Melo says since D'Antoni and Grunwald denied it.

I don't recall D'antoni denying it at all, he sounded more like he didn't want to acknowledge the convo by basically saying " i don't recall".

Grunwald merely kept it as a business move, as he should.

The GM doesn't make the play or not play decisions, the coach does that.

If they don't think he's starter material, yes. And all signs point to that being the case.

keep lin, hopefully he continues to grow and perform and turns into a really good pg. If lin fails he will get booed out of MSG.

The knicks never said they would match any offer. They wouldnt have given him a horrible deal though. It should be his problem if he WANTS to be a Knick.

That's not a valid reason to not match. That's throwing a tantrum cause somebody outsmarted you.

yep. i was thinking the same thing. those t-shirts were going for 75 percent off not too long after linsanity died down. i wonder what the tv numbers were ?

There are limits to Dolan's largesse - see Phil Jackson. Didn't want to pay him either.

I think they feel the product that have is good enough to puts asses in seats - championship is in second order of importance after making money.

The backlash across the league will be HUGE if Lin is not matched, mark my words.

Linsanity wasn't just a fad that swooped quickly across the nation, everybody is still intriqued by this story. NY Knicks will look really really bad if this happens if you thought they are hated now just wait and see..........

But Woodson has gone on record saying that Lin will indeed start if returning and that he wouldn't be penalized for injury.

13th Man wrote:1) Financially. Signing him will probably not affect future signings however it does hit Dolan hard in the pocketbook. We cannot assume that money means nothing to a billionaire, he got to where he is by making smart financial decisions.

James Dolan is a CEO. He takes a salary. His salary will not be affected by luxury tax.

He and his family (mostly his dad) are majority shareholders in MSG Corp.

The point being whatever tax dollars are spent, do NOT come out of his personal wealth. His personal wealth, like the shareholder, will be affected by the MSG stock price.

Period.

Now there is certainly valid argument to be had the Knicks finances will be affected by their luxury tax bill, but the idea that any tax the Knicks do not pay goes directly into Dolan's pocket has to be sticken from this dialogue.

Its misleading.

Your looking at over 30million dollars in year 3 for LIN with taxes included. Rumors have as high as 40. He is not CP3, he is not worth that kinda money.

Not a penny of that tax is going to lin, so why is it 30 million in year 3 for Lin?

Well the word on the street is he was feeling "frosty." I actually thought the Knicks were doing him a favor by not offering a contract and trying to see what a team offered just so they could match it. I always was under the assumption that we wanted to break bread with him because of the way he saved the season. I still believe that is what will take place despite all of the conflicting reports that say other wise. But maybe I'm being Naive.
