Tightly reffed games always favor the better team. It removes the physical element from the game. I expect a lot less physical play with Carmelo tonight.

You obviously were too young to watch Joey Crawford officiated games from 90s into the 00s. I've watched Crawford for a lot of years and he rankes pretty high on the list of alltime worst refs. A lot of people remember Joey Crawford for being part of referee crew during the 02 WCF, and for ejecting Tim Duncan for smiling, and many other bizarre calls.

Watch and learn:

Crawford is a bum, watching OKC games when Crawford is the ref is painful.

Putting aside his obvious bias against the Knicks, I think Joey is a lazy/dumb ref with a tight whistle.

Even if he was neutral about us, which he's not, he's a terrible ref for a closeout game at home like this.

Why?

Because we can win this game by being the aggressor at home and using our younger legs and crowd energy. But Crawford's whistles will grind the game to a halt, and then we'll start launching 3's out of slower halfcourt sets, which plays into Boston's hands. We make far fewer 3's in the slow halfcourt than in up-tempo.

if/WHEN Joey starts to control the game by whistling his ass off, the aggressive moves to the basket, the offensive boards, etc., and the energy in general, will be sucked out of the game. That would help Boston a lot.

And Joey will be blowing even more tonight, because he knows there's bad blood brewing between the teams in this series.

On the other hand, he's taking Doc's side on the 'JR excuse' story. The guy swings back and forth between fake fandom and hackdom.

In the Camby-Nash foul, he clearly blew the whistle by mistake and instead of being man enough to admit it, stuck it on Camby.

He also gives certain All-Stars the benefit of EVERY call. If Derrick Rose drives and doesn't convert, there's no way Joey is not blowing his whistle. It doesn't matter what happened or didn't happen. He's burnt out (probably a looong time ago) and just does automatic things in certain scenarios. Automatic, reality does not matter.

JR once got a clean strip (in Indiana, in a game situation where we needed to foul or get a steal in the backcourt) and he called the foul right away; you could tell he was barely paying attention.

Shumpert won't be allowed to steal the ball tonight. Kidd, maybe.

If crawford wants the spotlight he will hand the victory to the knicks himself. Extending this series because of himself doesn't do nearly as well for his notoriety.

Until the Knicks question a call...then he'll flip and assault these cats with a barrage of whistles unmatched by any bird calling competition.

Random Aside: He was at the Knicks viewing party I attended and dude spent the entire night kicking it with random groups of chicks...Shook male fans hands, but gave all his attention to the ladies like a true player. My respect for him jumped like three levels.

[Doc Rivers] On Lakers-Celtics 2010 final:

"Number one you gotta congratulate them because they won. They still have not beaten our starting five. Our starting five against the Lakers starting five has a ring. Tell him don't forget that. We will be back strong and Perk (Kendrick Perkins) will be there next year if there's a game seven."

C'mon Doc. SMH. Im losing more and more respect for you. Dont let losing compromise your integrity.

Really nice gotcha.

Doc is annoying as hell.

I remember that. Doc's hella competitive bordering on petty. He's already subtlely been using Rondo as an excuse, whining about his offense early in the series, so I take it with a grain of salt.

Look, he knows we're the better team but he's gotta keep his troops motivated. Whatever Doc.

For what it is worth:

We are 3-5 in games Crawford has reffed this season. 2 out of those 3 wins were Home Games. The third was road win against Boston.

Out of the 1,630 RS games that Crawford has reffed during his career, the Home team has a .592 Win %

Out of the 277 PO games he has reffed, the home team has a .679 Win %

Sounds like Joey was brought in to be the closer

Maybe that will help a few people off the ledge

Another thing -- you really don't want to be behind at halftime with Joey the crew chief.

He's not going to let the Knicks aggressively claw their way back into the game. That third period we had in G-2, Crawford would've blown at least a few more whistles which would've stopped the Knicks in their tracks before their momentum could build.

Knicks better start strong or you can kiss G-5 goodbye.
