I feel bad for them as human beings and of course for Melo as a father, but let's consider this. The NBA season, with camp and playoffs included, still rounds out to about 6 months. Now, 6 months is 6 months to be away from your wife and especially your child, but there is the other half of the year, plus being wealthy affords you the ability to easily afford commercial or private jets to get home more often than the average joe. Is it the same as being home? No way. But lets not pretend like this isn't as bad as when a service member gets deployed for a year + or someone takes a job overseas for a year, but the spouse/kids stay home (like if you took a gig in Saudi Arabia but the wife didn't want to adopt the lifestyle or live in a western compound or has a good job she's not leaving). Do people separate in those circumstances? I guess sometimes, if what they had wasn't worth keeping anyway. Like, the guy is at the tail end of his career, he'll probably play, what, 4 more years? And at a 1/2 a year each, you mean to tell me, at least his wife, couldn't deal with that situation? I've none people, to include myself, where my wife and kids were in one city and I in another for over a year. It sucked a little, we managed, and then it was over.

I agree that it seems their issues were compounded by coming to nyc. But a lot of marriages start off strong then waver. If the foundation isn't strong, the relationship will shrivel up and dry like a plant with weak roots.

Ah, the comments section of anything anywhere on the Internet. Where I go to confirm my low opinion of humanity.

About half of marriages don't work, a good chunk of the other half have issues but there is enough of a strong relationship there that it stays together and the couple manage to make it work. That part is a lot like sports and team building to a degree. But anyway I was trying to make a general point that this is perfectly normal.

Somehow I can't picture Melo singing to himself the theme song from Power...

Does this mean Melo's trade value went down?

Never thought Melo was smart but he managed to go all these years without getting a side chick preggo so that alone makes him smarter than most pro athletes or entertainers.

Looks like all the people that proclaim him to be this great guy and father figure, got hoodwinked.

Dad Melo and all that is pure BS.

Reminds me of Paul George who did the same thing w/ a stripper. She was pretty banging though.

George wanted to take a paternity test & It turned out the child was his.

I dont like how TMZ wrote allegedly in the article, but even though TMZ are sleazebags, they are pretty trustworthy when it comes to this type of news.

Melo needs a fresh start somewhere other than NY even more now.

Trade talks happen to EVERY team and player. Their marriage was on glass grounding to have been "supposedly" affected by this.

I mean, this was just as bad as in 2010-11 when he was on his way out to NJ/NY from Denver.

Some of y'all are taking this Phil hate to new levels now.

--Mags

If Phil wasn't here, I guarantee you Melo and La La would be much happier and probably still together. This drama, stress and negativity probably seeped into their home life.

Phil needs to take his senile old self and retire so no one has to deal with him anymore.

So Phil also had those trade talks swirling in 2010-11, right?!

FOH bro with your "guarantees!"

--Mags

2010-2011 was nothing like this year. Karl wasn't on twittering taking shots at Melo, wasn't having reporters trash him and the team, and wasn't telling reporters Melo had to go.

I definitely agree that Phil's BS and drama he created, could have had a negative effect on the relationship. I don't agree with putting all the blame on Phil though.

Little Italia wrote:To be honest, all Melo had to do was wait a few more months while in Denver to sign on as a Free agent with the Knicks. We still would've had Gallo and Chander, along with Raymond Felton. Pringles would still be coach, and maybe just maybe, his marriage would still be intact.

The amazing ramifications of Melo's greed.

You're not being honest, you're showing your ignorance.

Melo couldn't have waited a few more months to sign as a Free Agent with the Knicks. The CBA was ending, and what the new CBA was going to look like was unknown. Same with how long it was going to take or if there was going to be a lockout. Melo wanted the security of having his contract signed under the old CBA.

No one forced the Knicks to trade for him, nor did anyone force the Knicks to give up more than was most likely needed. Blaming that on Melo is just silly.
