But reality is, he's looking after himself. It's a win-win. If these treatments don't work, he will die and won't go to prison after the election. If they do work, he comes out of looking like a hero and wins the election.

I see the exact opposite. He downplayed it from day one & constantly pushed the anti science propaganda. It backfired big time and even he, the most protected person on the planet, caught it, showing how contagious it is.
I think a lot of ppl on the fence who actually use their brain have seen the obvious lack of leadership and this was just the icing on the cake.
