His splits against Boston in the playoffs were 34/31/53. So much for being a sniper. That’s the same schit Felton pulled against Indiana in the playoffs. And we all hated Felton after those playoffs. You’re bugging if you think Fred is not gonna get any hate here. Dude is gonna get exposed. He’s not good enough to be a #1 option.

Fred did 34/31/87.

Boston is one of the best defensive teams today. Fred was often guarded by Smart and Brown. Lowry did 43/30/79 and Siakam did 38/12/73.

Yah no, let's not compare Randle to FVV. I know you guys have an agenda to prop up Randle, but they ain't even close to the same level of player, and it's an insult to guys like FVV when people do that. The only similarity is that they're miscast as the 1st option, but that encompasses 99% of the league, ranging from guys like AD or Frank. All those guys are not first options. So...yea, that's an extremely lazy comparison.

But if you really need me to break down what's the difference, only one of those guys has a championship. Only one of these guys can play next to the real stars like Kawhi, Lebron, etc. Only one of these guys can shoot. Only one of these guys play defense. Only one of these guys will get a big contract without the Knicks overbidding against themselves.

Now if we get FVV, he will be miscast as a top option...in the short term. But I think the big goal in that case would be to take baby steps, basically spending the first year as a scrappy squad, which Thibs does pretty well. After that, the goal is to get a seat at the table with the big guns, and to try and sell them on being the first option on our team. If we get that seat at the table, then yes, FVV will be a selling point because he knows how to win and he knows how to play his role. Do we overpay? Nah. But if we get him, it will be very different from getting Randle.

In short, we don't need FVV to win and we shouldn't overpay, but if we sign him, there is a path towards a championship team, even if it looks ugly in the short-term. Also FVV is the farthest thing from trash like Randle.

Frank is a reach as the 4th or 5th offensive option.

to me it also depends where that 1st is and how long the contract is. getting pick 26, let's say, to take on more than 1 year of salary...pass.

I like Bey and think he is pretty safe and will be solid. Maybe just a questionable ceiling so not sure they would take him at #8....but maybe since its such a toss-up draft. They could also be looking at trade scenarios

Cause I think a guy like Damyean Dotson is solid, but Saddiq will be much better, no?

Will he be better than a Jae Crowder? Probably, but Crowder has a lot of winning habits.

Def a better prospect then Damyean Dotson. I see Saddiq Bey being a solid starter....maybe better offensively then Crowder, but not as good defensively...although he should be a solid 2-way player that can shoot and do some other little things. Def looks like a good role player on a winning team.

With regards to Wiggins, I can't see any NBA team already picking in the top-10 taking him on merely to move up. That's a $95M commitment to an inefficient, ball-dominant player the Warriors actively do not want. You're not paying almost a hundred million to pick swap.

A deal for Wiggins at this point would only be palatable if it brings in the #2 pick while not sacrificing any high-value present-day draft capital. You're effectively looking to purchase the #2 overall pick in a top-weak draft for $95M in the right scenario. I'm not even sure it's worth it at that point - whomever you select would HAVE to hit BIG to make it even come close to making sense.

I swear I'd be tempted to do it if it was just a swap of picks... I think Edwards can be DMitchell like and pairing him with RJ and Mitch sets us up really well going forward.

the one team i could see taking that deal is SA. i think they've locked in on wiseman as the guy they want to carry the torch and be tim duncan's understudy and will move heaven and earth to get him. yeah the wiggins contract is a bitter pill to swallow but as long as wiseman is on his rookie deal it won't set them back long-term. their developmental staff is probably dying to mold this kid - would also be a classic "zig while everyone else is zagging" SA move.

Totally agree!

And I’m ok with selecting someone like this because of the 2021 offseason. It’s tough to look ahead, but locking in a stretch forward type like Saddiq would be just a part of the puzzle.

We’ll find our high volume, offensive playmakers soon enough.

I think Gilbert is right.. and it’s kind of why I’m a lil skeptical on if the game has passed Thibs by.. of course playing great defense is important still. But you also have to have fire power to compete in today’s NBA.. just getting by on defense only like the 04 pistons won’t cut it

i haven't watched the video, but i agree with the assessment that today's players are way too athletic and way too skilled to try to win without top flight offensive firepower and execution. you need defense, but a defense-only team isn't gonna win.

a team like the knicks has some of the right pieces defensively that get you over the hump, but they need to be supplemented with more scoring talent. your defensive specialists also have to bring SOMETHING to the table offensively, ideally shooting and/or playmaking.

i'd like to think we still don't focus enough on the five on the floor. when i played and coached, i always tried to push the philosophy of five as one. the players on the court have to become a composite organism. not guys doing what they do. everything gets maximized that way.

Actually, this whole thing with Knicks fans and overmatched first options is overblown. If you look into our past, we've had a lot of overmatched first options we revere. We just don't accept overmatched first options that don't put in effort on defense. How else do you understand the Frank love?

My theory is this. Defense is often seen as a function of effort, and in NYC, you don't survive without effort.

Can you define what a “role” player is?

If said “role” player has a big influence on winning basketball, are they still a “role” player?

How can we define what a “role” player is before they even step on the NBA floor?

Can a player expand from “role” player to something better? If so, what is that called?
