OG is so confusing offensively because there are elements to a really good offensive player there with his intelligence, passing, shooting, and physical tools, but then he'll just trip over his own feet while trying to dribble the ball...

Not sure how much more OG can do other than C&S / cut unless his handle & footwork took a leap.

He's everything Cam Reddish _should_ be. Including a wack ISO player. But in OG's case even his imperfections are perfect

Some Raptor fans had become "too familiar" with OG and took him for granted. I love how this board understands his defensive impact. And he does throw in some "clever conversation" in his deadpan interviews.

We have two championship caliber players: OG and Brunson.

That's enough to build a perennial contender with 1-2 more solid roster moves.

I probably started 3 threads in recent years on the GB saying OG was the best defender in the league (and therefore one of the best players in the league) and every time there would be a pile on of posters trashing my Raptor homerism

now you all know

I really forgot who RJ Barrett was. What team does he play for again?

Could he realistically win DPOY? His impact on our defense has been wild.

His insane +/- suggests he is among the most impactful players in the NBA.

When I look at lists of top NBA defenders there is only one player I'd take now over OG which is Giannis.

But OG is a far more versatile defender than Giannis and can guard the 1-5 positions.

At this point OG may be the most impactful defensive player in the league.

When you add in his offense he is possibly a top 20 player in the league.

We may have two top 20 players now which is brilliant.

After evaluating the OG trade and other Knicks moves in the past few years it begs the question:

Donnie Walsh or Leon Rose?

Comparing Walsh's three years in NY with Rose's current Knicks tenure which one is better?

If I had to give my opinion, Rose over Walsh. Donnie's time here was mediocre. He got absolutely nothing in return for Zach Randolph, Jamal Crawford and David Lee. His draft picks were terrible outside of Gallo. The Amar'e signing became a failure. Although it was a Dolan decision, he agreed to deplete the Knicks roster of their depth in the Melo trade.

Rose on the other hand cleaned up the mess left behind by Mills, by getting rid of Elfrid Payton, Kevin Knox, RJ Barrett, Frank Ntlikina, and Allonzo Trier. And bringing in guys like OG, Brunson, Ihart, Josh Hart and Dante who've had an immediate impact on this team.

Can you all concede now why in earlier seasons he was basically untouchable, and why it seemed Masai was asking such a high price for him any time some rumor came out about a team wanting him? Even now as a team not expecting to win, it was very difficult to let him go even when it looked like he wanted to? You just don't let go of players like him unless you absolutely have to.

Yes... but... I don't think he has this same impact on every roster. It was almost a perfect fit given our needs. Whereas, he was kind of getting wasted with y'all.

I found it weird that Masai didn't make efforts to resolve the roster around OG and Barnes earlier. Or in any event two of OG, Barnes, and Siakam. Do you think it was untenable ie OG was leaving either way? It felt like the pieces were there to make a much better roster. Namely, I was pretty surprised Toronto didn't make a move for a better scoring lead guard earlier.

He slots in perfectly for what we need and it seems like that could have been reverse engineered in Toronto.

BTW it has not only been OG himself. Keep in mind Donte and McBride have been two beneficiaries of this trade as well. Both have stepped up their game. Actually I really like what I'm seeing from McBride. He has the defense and 3 pointer down already. If he can find something where he can initiate and organize the offense with the second unit a little I can see him get 20 minutes a game.
