I am still in utter disbelief about last night's game. When Boone had Weaver close instead of Williams the other day I really thought he was going to stick with that decision. Fried pitched a beauty once again, dude is a real Ace. As for Weaver being the closer, I really like Weaver being our relief pitcher where we can throw him out whenever we need him. I'd prefer to make Cruz the closer because Weaver is the kind of guy you can put in the 4th inning when we're in trouble and he slows things down for 3 innings, or we can put him in the 7th inning when it's a 1 run game and he pitches for 1.2 innings. I feel like that's the perfect spot for him, I don't want to waste him by just making him pitch 1 inning. I mean we can def use him there at times, but I like having the leisure of using him when most needed because he's reliable in any inning.

My whole problem with Williams is everyone including the Yankees know that he has historically bad numbers to start the season until May/June.

So why not just put Williams in low leverage situations until he's ready to get slotted in the closer role. Makes no damn sense but hey they had to wait till he blew 3-4 saves to make that decision.

I think there's some precedent for his early season struggles and bounceback but the last time he dealt with those issues were during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. Guess he was hurt last year so we couldn't tell, but I guess we'll see if this guy is made for New York in the next few months.
