Giannis will be a Knick for three reasons
1. His salary is 48.7 mil. KAT is 49 mil
You need to match salaries in order to trade him. You can’t just trade him for picks. You need to have a net return of the same incoming salary as outgoing. KAT is the only player still under salary for more years beyond this one. If they want picks the Knicks can pick swap the ‘26, ‘28 and 30 picks with them. We can even add deuce to the trade for filler and take on someone from the bucks like Portis.
2. The picks. We want anyone but the spurs or nets to win tonight. If the spurs get the pick. They will trade it for giannis and the bucks wont oblige his request to NY if he asks for it
3. He was spotted in NY the day after he was eliminated from the playoffs with his wife. Probably saw the city. Loved it and asked to be traded. He also said he doesn’t want to be the main guy night in and night out.
If he goes to okc. They have to match salaries. If you trade other players, you essentially gut the team to get him. OR they have to trade SGA to match salaries which they won’t do
He won’t go to the rockets. He never wanted to be in Houston
Boston can’t get him because they are in salary hell. Unless you trade either Tatum or brown. Which they won’t do. Boston is already in the second apron. They can’t aggregate the salaries unless they trade Tatum or brown.
The only option is the spurs. If they get the first pick. They will offer the bucks it but they need to swap out Barnes and filler with the pick(s)
