Stein is based in Dallas. His source is the Mavs.
YMMV on how much you want to take his reporting at face value.

Brunson likes him. Giannis likes him.
How about Rick Brunson? I am assuming Brunson likes him like a lot

I stand corrected. So it seems this is directly from Dolan. It will be interesting how long it will take Kidd to get them fired then
It's already been reported that Dolan signed off on what Leon and his team wanted to do with Thibs. He simply sat in on the player exit meetings to hear people out. Dolan's let Leon do his thing. The Dolan conspiracies need to stop unless you have some real evidence other than Chris Russo screaming about it with his high-pitched voice making peoples ears bleed.
If I understand Leon just tiny bit, there is no way having Dolan sit at the player exit meetings was his idea. I think Leon had a good understanding Dolan was done with Thibs. But even if this was Leon’s call, I doubt Kidd is Leon’s choice.

Giannis + Kuzma covers KAT + Mikal going out
if you moved Hart as well you can have Portis and Connaughton coming back as well without having to go down the Lillard route.
You think the knicks would trade all of brunson boys?

KAT + Mikal + some young’ins + some paltry picks and swaps for Giannis, Portis and filler could work with 3/4 teams involved so MIL gets more young’ins and picks instead of players. I’d imagine Hart stays to appease Brunson.

We fired Thibs with no real plan in place.A lot of moving parts would have to work in the Knicks’ favor in order to make Jason Kidd their next head coach. There’s nothing wrong with targeting an employed head coach for their vacant position. Due diligence is good. It just seems a little odd that it appears to be Plan A.
The Knicks have backed themselves into a corner between the firing of Thibodeau and this upcoming hire. They’ve made it clear that what the winningest coach in recent franchise history did wasn’t good enough to reach their ultimate goal of a championship. It’ll be tough for New York’s suits to win the headlines and backpages with the next head coach, unless they have something up their sleeves, which is totally possible.
Until the big reveal, though, the Knicks appear to be in limbo. No available coach is an obvious upgrade or change of pace from Thibodeau. Getting a proven coach from another team seems far-fetched. Hiring an inexperienced or first-year head coach, while it might end up being the right decision a year from now, is a difficult sell to fans who now have heightened expectations after several successful seasons and based on the franchise’s own language following the firing of Thibodeau.
Respectfully, I wish this dude get reassigned off the Knicks. I don't like him, or his style. Very fear mongering.
As far as the FO is concerned, I'm not falling into this BS narrative there was "no plan". Thibs needed to go, we all (mostly) agreed on that. And bringing someone to run offense wasn't going to be an option. Thibs' too stubborn for that. I believe there's a Plan A/B/C/D/E/F. The team that's infamous for keeping secrets is suddenly a leaking boat? Postseason still underway, there's no rush to "settle" on someone. Team doing their due diligence. Though, it'd be a bad look if we don't have a coach by draft.
Yeah this writer seems to be stirring controversy for no reason. This is a normal process so far
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

never expected this
everyone is led to believe they are tight
They probably were tight at one time, but Thibs is known to be stubborn and stuck in his ways. I can 100% see this happening.
Interestingly, this story negates the theory that Dolan meddled and is the reason Thibs is gone.

Firing our best coach of the past decade to not even get the guy they want. We are headed back into the dark ages.
