Frank Isola: And then Jim Grey can ask James Dolan that all important question he famously asked LeBron: "Do you still bite your nails?" 1 minute ago

Frank Isola: I really wish the Jeremy Lin decision could be televised like the LeBron "Decision." James Dolan can even wear that bad shirt LeBron wore 2 minutes ago

Steve Popper ‏@StevePopper
Nets GM @BKDefend just said on XM that he thinks Knicks will let Jeremy Lin walk, so there's that. Your move Mr. Dolan.

Nash is 38 and he required Shump and $9M per. Lin costs an average of $8M and no assets. He's 23 with 10-15 good years ahead of him -- this would be much worse, to me, sham.

cgmw wrote:Whoa now, let's be fair. I never said Dolan doesn't care about money. I said the only reason to get rid of Landry is because Dolan cares about money over basketball.

My entire argument was that the BASKETBALL decision to keep Fields is clear because it was an exception to the CBA that either didn't hurt our flexibility or actually gave us more roster options later. I never claimed Dolan doesn't care about money. On the contrary, I kept saying I'd be shocked if he actually matched. My point was MONEY was the only reason to let him walk.

In the case of letting Lin's CBA exception go to Houston with no compensation, it seems that money is just an excuse for something much worse.

Dolan is supposed to be the steward of our franchise, making decisions in its best interest. If matching Lin puts the Knicks in financial peril, then let him walk. But it doesn't. If matching Lin makes us a better basketball team, then match Lin. It really is that simple.

The thing is, we can sit here and call it a strictly basketball decision but we don't have the money invested in this team. We have an owner who has spent over 100 million dollars on the team in the past and to think he's an awful owner for not making that kind of investment again, especially when the tipping point is a player with only a 25 game sample...It's really not fair to the guy. How many owners in this league would actually make that investment? Maybe 3 or 4?

So to simplify as "if Lin and Landry makes us better, you match them" isn't fair to the guy putting the money down or the management that has to make every decision seem reasonable to that owner.

i have to agree with this. If Lin pans out, we are up there with heat and rest of the elite team.
What's sad to me is that we could have had them BOTH. Harvard learning from one of the GOAT.

i know you don't agree kg but nash is so much better. do you really believe if you put lin on last year's suns they could go .500 in the west. nash makes everyone better and he does it with ease. unless he completely drops off this year, he'll have a better year again.

Tommy Beer: Even if NY is convinced that Lin will be a bust, then you retain that asset (which other teams value), and trade Lin in January. now

Remi, if you'd like to defend Jim Dolan's right to turn a profit, good for you.

Personally, that's not my bag. I'm much more interested in Jim Dolan somehow turning this team into a champion again.

The way I see it if the CP3 Dream is still alive what are we trading to the Clippers for him? Shump, Mr. Hamburger Helper himself and a bunch of Dinosaurs? Lin is an asset that we have to retain!!!

It was and it wasn't. Even after we lost out on Nash we still at least had Lin to fall back on. Now...

no it was. the knicks with nash were up there with anyone. with or without lin, we're still an underdog.

To go from hopeful to hopeless is the biggest blow you can sustain as a fan. Hope is the life-blood of fandom, without it you have no reason to invest anything emotionally into a team. And in my opinion, Felton in, Lin out = hopeless.

Nash would've exponentially improved our title chances, but without him we still had a modicum of hope.

One of these players will definitely be mediocre. One of these players is 24 years old with a great work ethic and has shown flashes of greatness.

The decision-making at the top of this organization has been so thoroughly awful for so long it's sad.

Where did you get this? Why is everyone so negative this morning after what melo said last night? So many of you need actual psychological help that it makes me said--except it's your craziness that entertains me.

Quoted from Iolsa in today's NY Daily News:

Then Jim has his basketball people telling him that Felton is every bit as good if not better than Lin so it makes the decision easier for him to make.

But Jeremy was essentially a rookie and lit it up.

It's funny but I think Linsanity has become a synonym for fluke -- I honestly think that's just wrong. He is really good.

Nash is still better but Lin has a mind for the game and some physical attributes that Nash never had. Nash is aging -- Suns wouldn't have been as good with Lin but Nash didn't start his career on a 25 and 8 tear either.
