No it's about portraying something you aren't. People don't call out Lupe, Mos Def, Talib, Ye, or Childish ever. Drake's been in songs talking about having to catch bodies before and during that whole Take Care era he was portraying himself as a don. Everything was cool for Drake until he stepped in that lane. Now he stepped back out of it but people stopped paying attention to him once he did that and they still have the same negative thoughts about him. Nice thinly veiled racism though...

Im glad you got it first.SMH. Mos Def is harder than some cats who in the streets. People that say stupid **** like that, show they dont understand this culture or history of hip hop. You can also name cats like Tribe, De La Soul, Large Pro and countless more.

Ahh the racism card..never leave home without it..

As far as Drake he may have line in a song or two but 99% of his songs he's hardly trying to portray an image as some tough guy..

Oh so explain to me what "What a tremendous culture" meant? Explain to me what the whole post meant?

And there was a time where Drake was portraying himself as that don't act like there wasn't he stopped and I started listening to him again but don't act like he wasn't trying to be captain save-a-ho and Aubrey the HNIC all at once.

My issue with Drake is that you can skip to any part on tons of his songs and it is like you haven't missed a beat because (at least for me) I just hear very little that is unique about his flow or the beats that are behind him. I know it is all opinionated of course, I am not foolish in that regard, but it is a major point mark against Drake that I simply cannot get over.

Also, I consider the genre that he is in to be "Hip-Pop". It borrows from some of Hip-Hop's bases, but primarily infuses pop music; given my preference to guys like Big L, Eminem, and Tupac (just naming the first three that came to mind) the pop genre, for the most part, simply does not connect for me.

The only way Meek can win at this point is in a fist fight and im not even sure Meek would win that. Drake killed him tonight and previewed 3 peat. It's time for Meek to just accept the L and move forward with his career. People will still buy his stuff as long as he's with barbie doll and gets her connects for features. It sucks he showed his hand too early but it's always smart to admit you lost before it gets worse.

This is considered baiting. This is your only warning.

EDIT: Wait...how many warnings do you already have against your record? Wow.

Hip-Pop is alive and breathing.

People wanted Hip-Hop to be more mainstream & more fitting with the times well be careful what you wish.

LOL @ meme's dictating who wins a beef.

This ain't the sh*t Jay/Nas, LL/Canibus, KRS/MC Shan battled over. Never in my life have I heard an average diss track but good overall song be considered ether & scathing to another man's career. This generation is easily impressed it's not even funny.

THIS is Drake pretending to be something he's not? Oh man lol.

Many who actually listen to the lyrics get the metaphor, which is that hip hop and its culture has grown past the mainstream's attempts to marginalize it. The style and images of the video support that narrative.

I suppose you can hate on Drake for becoming 'mainstream' or not being hard or w/e, but he's never really pretended to be something he's not. Even the song you link has a line about where he came from (i.e. shooting Degrassi at 5am) and growing past those roots.

He's never tried hiding what he is.

Hip Hop is a culture its not a music. Rap is one of the elements of the culture. EmCeeing. Its something you do.

Whats happened is major record labels that do main stream pop has taken the profitable element of the culture and made it their own. The other elements have gone out of style. Im sure there is still a small number of people out there beat boxing. Breaking. Scratching records and spray painting but its not what it used to be. And it dont sell.

We used to get together in the parks, in the projects, with 2 technique 1200's, a crate of records, an amp, big speakers, a 2 channel with mixer with a cross fader and mike and get down. It was something to do and it was ours. Beatboxing contests. Battle DJing contests. Break dancing. Hell, rapping wasnt even that big a thing until Kool Moe Dee changed the way it was done and invented the modern battle rap.

Hip Hop is dead. Theres no "hip-hop" music. Rapping over a DJ or beatbox was hip hop. Mixing break beats over an EmCee was hip hop. 6 second samplers looping the breaks was hip hop. TR 808's,.. sp12's. The MPC60 was ground breaking and primo mastered it.

All that is dead. Main stream pop took rap, and dumped the rest. Then took away the street roots, the free style, added hooks and singing, watered down the lyricism and made a profitable genre. Every once in awhile you'll hear something thats a bit more authentic but its usually "for promotional use only" passed out in the streets on cheaply made mix tapes with no real DJing and used to sell the mainstream record that wont even contain those songs. Aint no hip hop music. It was hip hop culture. We invented it. It got taken. Now talented dudes where I come from dont even get a chance anymore.

Illmaculate and Shotty traded disses over the Back to Back beat. Battle rap is the closest thing to authentic hip hop imo (KOTD even used to have breakdance and beatboxing battles, their first million view video was a beatbox battle not a rap battle).

See I come from the streets. I only care about the realness. I dont care for industry stuff. The majority of its fake. Drake pulls that stunt last night flexing, acting tough to guy that is not even in your face. You claim you have T.O. Back on stage fronting, and you wont let anyone disrespect it, but look at the OVO fest Line up. NOT ONE TORONTO Artist. He dont even showcase T.O talent. Drake knows the music scene out there and does nothing.Thats fake ****.He just helped out Ar-Ab on some bad vibe ****. That deal is going to turn bad, cause its not something that was Genuine, it was done to spite someone else. After he signs some Philly Goons...he wants to act out even more. Alot Yall care about the BS, I care about the real.I dont care who the rapper is...if you living fraudulent off the mic,I dont **** with you. I would respect a lesser talented artist as long as he is official and really shows that his word is bond. I cant listen to an artist that fronts. Drake dont do **** for Toronto. That tells me all I need to know. But he the "six god" ... "God" Gives back to the people...He dont give back to his city, he tricks them by giving them "OVO Fest" Foh. The real T.O heads know what time it is up there. I got a cousin thats signed to Duck Down from T.O.

He on stage Flexing, but Puff Daddy smack the **** out of him and he did NOTHING. NOTHING. Puff is a chump...so thats how you know Drake is a bitch. Even Chris Brown who is another fraud, had drake under pressure. But he on stage flexing on meek. FOH. Its easy to do that when a person can't punch you in the mouth.
