People are jumping the gun big time. There is no solid evidence that the Knicks have made a decision. This is all SPECULATION that occurred as a result of the Felton trade. All the "sources" that have come out the last few days saying the Knicks will not match are taking educated guesses. They know nothing about what the Knicks will do. All they know is that the CBA is punitive for luxury tax teams, and Dolan is our owner. So, they put it together and say Dolan is pissed at Lin and doesn't want to pay the tax.

I still think we will match, and the Knicks will wait to the last minute to do so. Why? Pay back for Morey and his back-alley moves. Show no indication you will re-sign Lin, get Morey and Houston's hopes up for a PG of the future and get them salivating over potential revenues, then match at the last moment. Houston has no back-up option at PG since that market is already washed up.

You got a lot nerve showing face here after putting family business on the GB.

not my fault a site admin decided to compare Jeremy Lin to 9/11. Since it's ok to compare terrorism to basketball, I guess whatever I say is fair game.

If you had a problem, PM KG. You don't go the GB & try to put the man on blast.

I'll tell you what ... when we traded Cutler, Melo, then Tim Tebow I felt like I did in high school when 3 miles away the Columbine Massacre happened.

I'm pretty emotional.

He doubled back with Houston trying to get more money from us not caring about the luxury tax or us losing our exceptions . This guy is a me first player and not someone I would want on this team at 15 mill in his third year.

Cause we're not women and don't make decisions based on emotions.

Knicks w/ Lin > Kincks w/out Lin. Even if you feel like he's backstabbed us, you still match his contract. Even with the poison pill, it's tradable. You don't let an asset like that go for nothing cause you feel he double-crossed us by getting a larger offer.

Thanks for a logical response , however if he's not the player that we think he is his contract in the third year is not very tradeable . Also since Woodson became coach his role was severely diminished and his numbers dropped also so even though he may be better than Felton him at 3 years 25 mill is not the better option than 3 years 10 mill with almost the same production . Jeremy "Linsanity" died when Dantoni resigned and Melo was back from injury

His role was not severely diminished. When they went 6-1 (before Lin went down) with Lin/melo/amare under woodson, they were killing teams with 20 pt leads. The starters didn't even play the fourth quarter. Of course your points/assists decrease when you sit on the bench. During that stretch, Lin was vital. Did you not see the pacers game at IN or the sixers game?! Lin came up huge at the end of those games.

Hes comparing his feelings, he didnt compare terrorism to linsanity.
This just shows your personality a lot, Yes KG said something inapproriate, but he apologized and he explained himself in a way that a normal guy would forgive him --- You, instead, took it to GB trying to embarrass him.

Fair game, and dont be surprised when you get your due at some stage.

Brawlers wrote:Guys - what am I missing here? From a pure business standpoint it seems like an obvious decision. You sign Lin and use his value to get something for him down the road.

For the next two years he's fairly priced at $5 and $ 5.2 million, with the tax comparable. No brainer here as his value as an international star clearly pays for itself and 5 mill for a starting PG is fine.

Year 3, if he's awesome and a top 3 player on the team you keep him, if not trade him. Even if he's slightly better than average, many teams will want his expiring contract on top of him being Lin, the international man of mystery. Can't ever see a reason to let him walk for nothing.

If he comes back and is having issues with the coach's style and his teammates then showcase him around the deadline in 6 months and trade him then. Again, no reason not to get value from him.

Screw Dolan's ego - there's always payback. Trade him later for the Knicks benefit, if it bothers you. Just don't let him walk for nothing.

Knicks would have to trade one of our big contracts if we resign him. If we're willing to trade him at any point in the next three years, it probably means he's not worth the 15 million in salary plus whatever the cap hit would be. Then what? Assets can become liabilities very quickly. Look at how much the Knicks had to pay to get rid of Jeffries in 2010. What would a team make us do to get under the tax in 2014-15?

It's Dolan's decision, though. Put him in the hot seat.

The awesome thing when the Knicks do match- I don't care if Dolan wants him gone (which is believable), there are other heads on MSG's board and guys in the front office who HAVE TO BE SMARTER than to let an asset go for nothing, it's a bad business move and an ever worse basketball move- is that the media will look really dumb for completely missing on this.
