I'd love to see Grimes get IQ's minutes. I don't think IQ is in a slump, as other have mentioned, he hasn't been shooting the ball well for a while now. He is far too inconsistent for my liking tbh, and his shot selection is by far the worst on this team so that isnt helping him. A bench unit of Rose/Grimes/Burks/Obi/Taj would be absolutely awesome, then we can Noel and IQ fill in when guys aren't playing well or hurt.

Did the same thing at Kentucky as in the NBA. Came in and partied too much last year and then the next year he focused up and won SEC player of the year.

I don’t think his offseason was that productive, he was in Miami hanging with Tyler Herro just kind of going through the motions. But if he has a disappointing season this year I can see him grinding hard next offseason. Year 3 IQ is where he’ll really break out

I saw tweets saying the total opposite. The man worked almost every day with Obi Toppin in the off season. It hasn’t paid off so far for him but the season is still young.

I mean let’s play more than 5 games before making adjustments to the rotation. Imagine if Grimes struggles for 5 games should he be replaced for someone too? Let’s give the guy a decent shot since he earned it last season.

That's probably why guys found it hard to get up for this game; they just cruised right until it was go-time and won the game.

They have been bringing the intensity against worthy opponents. Just having bizarre meltdowns in the final 3 minutes.

More concerned about their defense as opposed to the closeness

their defense was a major reason why it was this close, and this was against a team that didn't have its top 2 offensive weapons.

closeness of the game is directly linked to the defensive problems.

First the resident fan whipping boy was Kemba,
then it was RJ

So if the pattern holds IQ is due for breakout game any day now, and then everybody loves him again

For me, it’s more than 5 games. It’s the playoffs, summer league, pre season and now a 6 game stretch during the regular season. His shot selection is insanely terrible, his handle is mid, and he’s a net zero when the ball not in his hands.

I want Grimes because it’ll let Rose be the best version of himself. Grimes provides defense, mid range game, and movement off the ball that IQ lacks.

The game plan is out on IQ, let him chuck his 3s … if they’re not falling he’s very limited.

The only reason I may be in favor of keeping him in his spot is because of chemistry and his connection with Obi but I know it frustrates Grimes seeing this guy get mins over him.

It's so crazy that we're 5-1 with the best offense in the league and we really haven't played that great of basketball. Imagine when this team is actually firing on full cylinders?

Fun Fact:

In the 6 games RJ is 17.2 pts per game. 4 pts per game are associated with C&S variety.

So less then 25% of his pts are associated with C&S.

How does that fit into the narrative?

Also shows that Randle is struggling a bit playing off ball. Probably just not used to those shots because he was so ball dominate last year. Hopefully he will adjust in time

RJ freaking Barrett! I have never seen a Knicks player get drafted and get better and better each season. I'm not trading RJ EVER unless it's for a 25-28 yearold All-Star PG. Just look at how much better RJ has gotten since his rookie season. Just imagine him in 3 years! He might not ever be as good as Ja or Zion but he's going to be that type of player we cannot lose. Super giddy and excited about RJ!

I knew it was too early to give up on Kemba. He's balling! His ability to shoot and score along with Fournier (he needs a nickname!) is something we haven't had in the backcourt since...ever? We would have lost last night if it were last season. We needed Randle to play like Larry Bird every single game. But this season, we just have weapons. We can afford to have Randle have an off game shooting and scoring.

5-1!!!!

I'd assume a FrozenEnvelope guy is familiar with Ewing. And Ewing added something to his game each year for at least the first 5 years. The Bill Cartwright runner in the lane I don't think happened until year 3 and was huge. He kept adding range. His passing got better, though never great. I think he had the baseline turnaround jumper from right away. But Ewing got better each year.

But yeah, it's been a while. To me, RJ is on that same noticeable trajectory, where the improvements are obvious.

D E V E L O P M E N T !

What’s that spell?

Development.

Just rewatched.

RJ is better. Numbers don’t match the improvement, but he’s better.

Loved his 4th quarter and post game. He seemed to be legitimately checking on Zion’s well being.

We need more, but our depth is legit. Depth matters. It sucks that it may take an injury to see and acknowledge it, but it matters.

A lot of Burke hate but he’ll fix that soon enough…

Love Obi but wondering if he won’t be able to grow with Randle here…

Kemba doing Kemba thangs. Godsend foreal.. it’s like a breath of fresh air from elfrid.

of course we had our up and downs but for expample I don't expect rose and kemba to play all 82 games and be a combined 56% on over 10 attempts from three either.
I think we played very well for most of the time.

being the best 3pt shooting team in the league on a lot of attempts makes up for a lot of weaknesses.

They could be hiding Grimes. Or they want to get IQ on track - either for the team or for a potential trade. Benching IQ this early would hurt his value and his confidence. As much as I want to see Grimes, it probably makes sense to let it ride a bit more with IQ.

Yea you’re reaching dude. You don’t know what is in Grimes’ mind to make a statement like that. You make it seem like IQ didn’t have great games in summer league or that he didn’t have at least one good game in the regular season, which was against the Magic. Best version of Rose? He’s been our best player and he can play the role he wants to whenever he wants to. So yea just chill a bit and root for your team bc things are going pretty good rn.
