Re: Deadline Discussion Thread - Thursday 2/10 3pm - Part 2
The Knicks have made the entire roster available for sale, with point guard Kemba Walker the likeliest candidate to move on. But Fournier and his $78 million contract also could be on the move.
He has to attach an asset to some of them,” an NBA personnel man said. “Don’t think anyone is lining up at the door for Fournier’s contract.”
Indeed, a prevailing issue is there aren’t a lot of teams head over heels over the Knicks’ assets. One thing to consider: the Knicks are selling low, so why sell at all?
Julius Randle — on and off the court — has perplexed the organization with his odd behavior and inefficient play, but his parting is likelier to occur in the offseason when there are more options. Plus, he has a chance to increase his trade value. On the western trip, he’s averaging 29 points in the three losses.
There’s so many ways the Knicks can go. According to ESPN, the Lakers have expressed interest in swingman Alec Burks as management tries to clear a spot for Cam Reddish. Backup center Nerlens Noel has suffered through a brutal campaign after signing his three-year, $30 million extension — unable to stay healthy because of a chronic knee issue.
The Knicks are still desperate for a point guard, but the offseason, when Jalen Brunson is a free agent and Damian Lillard might ask for a trade, sounds like a better plan.
One NBA source said management was more “collaborative” with coach Tom Thibodeau last season than now.
According to a source, Thibodeau wasn’t high on the Walker signing. The Post has previously reported he wasn’t all-in on the Reddish trade, either. Thibodeau admitted in Denver on Tuesday that he’s not involved until a deal gets close.
Word around the league since preseason has been the team’s brass is not on the same page, that there are too man cooks in the kitchen with Rose, William Wesley, Scott Perry and Thibodeau.

Please weigh in on my question as well? Can he function as a 3rd or 4th option?
Hi. The answer is "not only no but f*ck no" and if he's not the clear cut #1 option he pouts like a child.
Not only do we take that deal and RUN we say NO F*CKING TAKE BACKS!!!

Ignoring the tweet that says Knicks wouldn't go near Westbrook...
The Lakers and Knicks really are the perfect trade partners. Lakers badly want out of the WB experiment, and still have title aspirations for obvious reasons. Knicks should be motivated to move a few of their vets who are serviceable, but signed to longer deals so they can reset and do a proper rebuild.
It's far from perfect for either team, but that's what makes it fair.
In reality, the Knicks SHOULD be the one team willing to take Westbrook. Again, it has nothing to do with basketball. I want them to shed salary and start over. We all want them to focus more on the youth, give RJ the keys, clear up some more cap to comfortably extend Mitch, and give guys like Cam and Obi a much longer leash.
Who cares if Westbrook is trash? At this point, we should be tanking for the highest possible pick anyway.
Lakers have a chance to add Randle who has played in LA, is loved by their ownership, and could much more feasibly have a resurgence playing 3rd fiddle to LeBron and AD. Guys like Fournier and Burks could certainly carve out a decent role on a contender as well.
Westbrook and cap filler for Randle, Fournier, and a combination of Burks, Kemba and Nerlens would tickle me pink. If we squeezed any other minor asset out of them for our troubles, it would be icing on the cake. Can't think of another realistic trade I'd rather make actually.

My board seems to think Randle couldn’t handle being the 3rd or 4th option and getting fewer FGA per game, even if it meant getting easier buckets and maintaining his current numbers. What do you guys think? Also what do you think of
Timberwolves out: Malik Beasley, Josh Okogie, Leandro Bolmaro, and the Wolves 2022 first round pick top 4 protected.
Timberwolves in: Julius Randle.
You get 2 defensive minded wings with upside that would fit well with Thibs scheme. Beasley would mean you always had 3 point shooting on the floor (between him and EF,) or you could move him again for another protected 1st. I know it isn’t the sexiest offer, but Randle is having a down year and it gets his money off your books while adding some decent young talent.
Beasley is a problem, but this is the easiest yes I've seen from an opposing fan proposal in a long time.

He can fit because he passes so well but in NY he won't be able to take a step back in the same way he could if he goes to a team that has established options.
If you'd rather see your team fail so you can be right
...you are a fan of your opinion not the team.

Just realized there are only 27 games left
If they can’t get a decent deal they will try to get Randle and Fourniers’ numbers up to boost their off-season trade value

As long as Thibby is here there will be no youth movement or rebuild. Dolan too, but especially Thibby.
Just gotta accept it or we dont have to watch (which I know both of us have stopped watching many tines over the years before lol). No use wishing for it.

nets have little leverage. Harden can walk in the offseason and he clearly doesn't want to be there
They do have some leverage though. Sixers would still have to pay teams in picks and talent to offload enough salary to sign Harden. Nets can take the stance of might as well pay us now instead of double the price in the offseason
they'd have to unload a few picks to get Tobias, but they could also get a solid return for Simmons, so it kinda becomes a wash
True enough

It just made feel better that the season is two thirds over and I can just skip the rest without feeling like I’m missing anything. I really have to cut this habit for the next few months anyway. Have too much to get done. I’m just hanging on to see if anything happens by tomorrow

I've only seen him play a little bit, but here's what I know-
-he's not a starter on the Mavs
-he's small
-he's not very quick or athletic
-he wants to be paid
-the theme of this deadline for the Knicks is trying to undo the contracts they just handed out
I'm just not enthusiastic about shelling out another 4 years/80 million for a role player. I'd rather shed salary, extend Mitch, and try our luck in the lottery. Just my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong and Brunson is the next star PG. Highly doubt it. Sounds more like a guy you add when you already have 2 stars and need a reliable starter to put you over the top.
