I don't think you can call it "ideal, team-friendly" if the player gets to decide to skip out on the least-expensive year.

It's team friendly that the numbers decline as the cap increases which (a) provides more cap flexibility and (b) brings the contract closer to market rate for an average starting PG as the deal gets shorter.

Actually, it's kind of the opposite

It raises the AAV slightly because it becomes a 3 year deal for $80 million instead of 4/104

That's player friendly, because he can opt out for a bigger bag in 3 years while still getting the largest yearly payday

It would only be team friendly in the way you think if the last year was a team option, not a player option. It would be more team friendly if it were an increasing deal

Because the first 2 years will be more expensive than if it were increasing, and we're only gonna save like $2 million (if that) in his 3rd year vs an increasing, then we have to re-sign him in year 4 for more than he would have made, which more than offsets any gains

It's really not team friendly, it's very player friendly.

Is this official that they outright signed him and did not do an S&T?

Not official until July 6th I think, so they can still work out a sign and trade or tweak the numbers

Contract can be tweaked to however we want it, if a sign and trade with Dallas becomes viable.

They have until July 6th.

Yea, this is where it can take some time to work out all those details, Guess it depends if they can agree with the mavs on a sign and trade and that will effect how some of the other deals go down….and maybe some more pieces move in and out.

Then also with Kyrie/KD…teams are scrambling to put offers for them and probably need help from other teams.

I don't think a team that thinks we tampered with a guy they wanted to keep for $105 million is in any rush to help us out by taking on contracts or creating flexibility for us.

Brunson is crazy smart and crafty. Great attitude and toughness. Can run the team. Checks a lot of boxes we were missing and need. Ideally that imoact effects everyone on the team and makes everyone better. They needed this type of piece and hope it all glues together. Think the fans will love him.

Concern for me is still the glut and some other Ill fitting pieces that they can hopefully still move.

Aren’t they helping themselves? If they want to lose him for nothing those terms are acceptable as well

I like brunson as a player...he raises the floor of this team 10000%...I am concerned we are running out of time to truly raise the ceiling of this team.

Thats less of a brunson issue and more of a roster construction issue.

if they don't help out they are over the cap with no way to replace Brunson production. If they play ball they will at least get a TPE to then bring in a moderately high price player via Trade or S&T.

I mean if Cam Reddish does it for them, great, but I can't imagine Cam Reddish does it for anyone.

I could see them being interested in Fournier because he would be a fantastic fit off the bench for them (better than Bullock, equal to THJ IMO) but then they are taking on money.

For sure. That is not an easy fix and they may be stuck.

If we could just erase all the signings from last offseason, keep our pick, sign Brunson outright….would look a lot better.

If Brunson is Buns on the defensive end what makes him tough? Usually when I think of tough for NBA players, I think of what they bring on the defensive end.... Not offensive end. Nobody calls Marcus smart gritty because of what he does on offense.

This tweet makes no sense. Other teams offered more than what the Knicks got for Burks/Noel? They got the cap space needed to get Brunson didn't they? I'm confused.

We gave up a first for Cam. I'd like to see him grow with this group and RJ and hopefully take hold of that SF spot that has been terrible for us for years.

For real , why are treating cam like he’s just a throw in. I would like to see how he fit with our team .
