Definately bad contracts. Third max is a pipe dream in my view so I would rather keep as much talent as possible.

disagree...give up whatever and no bad contract

go into 2012 FA with just melo/amare on the roll

I honestly don't think that if we trade for Melo instead of signing him that we'll have enough for a third superstar free agent.

There is little reason to believe that those FA's would be much more willing to opt out and test FA than Melo would nor that their teams would do any less to try to move them like Denver would (if they sense those guys aren't coming back) nor that other teams wouldn't be as desirable if not more so (Melo is a NY'er so his desires for NY is genuine but the rest of the guys have no direct tie to NY so I wouldn't hold my breath that they would make the same demands...i.e. "I want NY only"). The Knicks need to worry about the here and now and win.

Whether that is the actual offer we are making or not, f*ck what D'Antoni wants. His job is to coach whatever players he is presented with not to decide who he wants to keep or not.

A Nuggets loss tonight (in HOUSTON) and a Blazers win (in MINN) may put the wheels of moving Melo in motion. Both Utah and the Balzers would essentially leapfrog the Nuggets pushing them out of the playoff picture (they'd be in 9th place with the a Portland and Houston win). Fingers crossed!!

EDIT: They'd actually be in 8th place with the Grizzlies only 0.5 games in the rear view hosting the Sixers tomorrow :D

No they wouldn't. The Nuggets would be 31-25 if your scenario pans out, which is still ahead of the 9th place Grizzlies.

They would be bumped to the 8th spot right above the Grizzlies. However, if the Grizzlies beat the Sixers tomorrow then they will be .5 game behind the Nuggets for the 8th spot. Also with the Sixers losing, that only helps us more. Could be a great win-win situation if it works out.

Wow that would be a steal for us seeing that we lose Chanlder if we sign Anthony . So Gallo and Mosgov would be our two long term losses. Even if D antoni does not want to lose his guy in Galo he iwll be out ranked by Dolan with out a frekaing doubt . If Denver agrees to this trade i am going to be pumped up. We can replace Mosgov and Gallo in the next year

seems like old news.... d'antoni balking at giving up chandler and gallo-- or in general, too many young guys has been a long standing rumor regarding melo coming.

but the close the deadline is, the less games left in the season, and the closer we are to 500 i'm willing to bet d'antoni is on board with giving up 2 of 3 in gallo/chandler/fields. a month ago... i think not. today, i think it's a deal we should pull the trigger on.

Melo playing next to felton/amare this year will set us up for an important season next year... people shouldnt underrate that. they'll be comfortable playing next to each other from the get go next season. no adjustment needed.

How do you think we would get the multiple first round picks? We would need to trade even more guys. This is a terrible deal and probably the one proposed by Denver. I am pretty sure Donnie also would not make this deal.

I agree 100% Ago building chemesry for next season is imprtant seeing that it will be a shorter training camp / pre season next year .

I read a similar article this morning from newsday (Hahn):

Carmelo Anthony will go to the All-Star Game this weekend in Los Angeles as a member of the Denver Nuggets , a person with knowledge of the situation said. But although a trade won't happen this week, the source said the Knicks have "more of a sense of urgency'' to get a deal done for the four-time All-Star before the Feb. 24 trade deadline.

"They don't want to overbid," the source said, "but they also don't want to be left without a chair when the music stops."

Though no formal offers have been made by the Knicks, it has been clear that - with the knowledge that Anthony prefers to be in New York with a three-year, $65-million extension as part of the trade - they believe they have some leverage in negotiations with Denver .

The Nuggets, however, have maintained a stance that they won't trade Anthony if they're not satisfied with an offer for him.

Newsday reported Saturday that the Nuggets have been talking with other teams, with the Rockets as one dark-horse candidate, and also are interested in re-engaging talks with the Nets. Perhaps it's posturing, but the Knicks are concerned, the source said.

ESPN reported Friday that the Nuggets want Wilson Chandler , Danilo Gallinari and Timofey Mozgov , along with multiple first-round picks, from the Knicks. That's a steep price that has led to some debate within the Knicks' hierarchy, according to multiple sources.

Mike D'Antoni , two sources said, is putting up the most resistance against giving up so many young players. Donnie Walsh has long been in favor of adding Anthony, whom he has told confidants is one of the toughest players in the league. Team owner James Dolan , multiple sources say, is on board with making the investment to add another star to join $100-million man Amar'e Stoudemire.

Moz should be a deal breaker...

if both parties are resigned to 2 of 3, and that it is gonna be gallo and chandler the knicks have already made a concession in the negotiations. adding the picks is moot. I'm assuming it is involving AR.

at some point we're simply giving up wayyyyy too much.

Unless you are in the Melo over rated camp to call this a terrible deal is crazy. I am sure we would get a role player back maybe JR Smith at best i dont know . Your telling me we cant find another Mosgov out in Europe ? And maybe we can make other moves with our exprings like Buke if we get this deal done before the 24th. Felton-Fields- Melo- Stat is a nice core 4
