Towns would have to have an amazing workout with the Knicks to justify drafting him over players like Okafor and Johnson who have proven themselves at the collegiate level.

Re: College Thread AKA Prospect Watch
This is a beat down of epic proportions right now, UCLA being thoroughly embarrassed. Can't score, can't pass, can't dribble and just heaving up shots at times. Kentucky steamrolling another good team here.
Jazz: Under reconstruction, we'll be back.

Last night's game just emphasized why I don't like Towns much.
Yes the team did well but the kid just has too many defensive holes in his game.

Okafor is my number one guy as well. Quick question guys.. Say we do end up with pick 2 and the Sixers are ahead of us, would they take Okafor with the top pick or Mudiay? They did just draft Embid and Noel. I think they choose between Mudiay and Stanley Johnson.
Now what about third pick with Sixers and Pistons in front of us and we pick 3? That's when I believe Okafor is selected especially with Monroe leaving.
I'm just praying we find a way to get a second draft pick.

If we got the 3rd pick and Detroit got the 1st pick, should we consider trading the pick to Detroit for Drummond? He and Okafor wouldnt be a fit together. There is the chance I guess that they just draft Mudiay though.

As long as the Knicks are top 4 they can get a good player. You have Okafor, Mundiaye, Stanley Johnson, and Towns.
This draft is Okafor then everyone else. I wouldn't trade the pick.

I'd take Johnson over Towns. I think it is a 3 man draft. I really don't like Towns much.

Towns has talent. My issue is will he work on his game to get to the next level. I see him as a stretch 4 anyway.

Re: College Thread AKA Prospect Watch
Johnson won't be here, he is not a guy that can defend guards, unless he trims down he is not quick enough and he is too aggressive on offense, he will clash with Melo.
He is also a clear SF.
Winslow is the better athlete, defender, more versatile, utility wing, if we draft a wing we go for him 100%.
Okafor is the BPA clearly, then Id go Mudiay based on potential, after that is either Porzingis or Winslow.
I won't consider Stan the Man or Towns for the Knicks.

He has an all around offensive game (inside and out), is a great passer, is pretty athletic (not a freak athlete, but a good one), is a team first guy, and is a good defender. You know who also "disappeared for stretches" during college? LaMarcus Aldridge. The first time we argued about this you were convinced he wasn't a starter. I went to an SEC school and should hate Kentucky, but have absolutely nothing against Towns. Why? Because he's uber talented. There's a reason why every single scout is very high on him and has been for a long time.
Yeah but scouts were also high on the Beasleys on the world. I don't go by scouts at all. Because usually the lottery is full of "can't miss" guys by the scouts and they end up being average or worse.
In Towns see a guy who is elite at passing, has a solid offensive game but is meh in every other area. He lacks a motor.
And for ever Lamarcus Aldrige there are 10 bums at the end of the bench who lacked a motor in college and never got one in the nba.
I know this is not a great comparison but in 1992 (or 93) there was a can't miss PF who was the next Karl Malone/Barkley in a guy named Derrick Coleman. Who was uber talented had all the skills but lacked a motor. But people overlooked that because well all his tremendous skills. We know how that went.
When you lack a motor at 18/19 when you are reaching your physical peek and are still trying to achieve your dream of going to the nba that just tells me you are not someone I want in my team.
Of course there are outliers like LMA. But can you honestly give me 20 guys that in college lacked a motor and suddenly turned it on in the nba. I sure can't.
You know little about Coleman. The guy was diagnosed with a heart ailment, took medication that made him gain weight and lose energy. He was the real deal when healthy. You'd have a very hard time finding critics when he was in college. He would have been a better all-around player than Malone. He had a much more complete offensive game, could block shots, and play defense better. It was a shame, really

Speaking of Coleman, what on earth ever happened to Billy Owens and Sherman Douglas?

Granted, he has been injured quite a bit so he still has a little bit of room to get better, but overall 2 things stand out to me about him. 1. he doesn't look as explosive as he did his freshman year. doesn't just explode past people off the dribble and doesn't rise up as high anymore. 2. He seems to have an extremely low basketball IQ. He sat out a year so I try to cut him some slack, but honestly I just don't see it in him. Currently he is a liability in every sense of the word for UConn, especially on offense. He was expected to help carry the offensive load and really its all boatright and Daniel Hamilton carrying the load. The rest of the time we have different players that show up on different days.
I haven't caught a whole lot of UCONN games this year but man talk about a guy who had all the hype in the world and completely falling flat. He looks like he cant buy a bucket this year and like you said he was expected to help a whole lot this year.
There isn't a hole lot to catch. We have 3 pro prospcets. Ryan Boatright, who everyone knows about at this point. Second round pick, but I think he'll be a huge value. I think he can join a team and help immediately on both sides of the court. he's just a baller, despite his size. There is Daniel Hamilton who looks amazing at times on the offensive side of the ball. Really has shown great promise as a freshman as just a raw scorer and has show a lot of promise as a point forward with his passing abilities. On the flipside he makes some really bad decisions when pressured hard, he has at least another season at UConn because he can potentially enter the draft and have some success. Then there is Amida Brimah. 7 foot tall, runs the court well, blocks shots. Extremely raw on offense, foul prone, doesnt know how to rebound yet, and needs to gain weight and strength (at least strength). He's a pro prospect just based on height and athletic ability and shot blocking. He'll have to spend at least another year at UConn to move up the draft boards unless UConn somehow makes the tournament (kind of on the bubble at the moment imo and goes on another magical run).
Purvis I hope I'm wrong but he isn't pro material. he does nothing at an elite or even very good level. He is solid in the open court but doesn't even look that explosive anymore. Cant shoot to save his life and he makes JR smith look like the smartest bball player to ever walk the planet. Seem's like a good kid, good attitude, works hard, but just doesn't have IT. I hope I'm wrong and he is just crazy rusty, but I'm not seeing it in him. Beyond disappointed. His lack of contribution imo is why UConn isn't going to be a real threat in the NCAA this year.
Next year we get Jalen Adams though and Steve Enoch. I think these guys, in combination with Hamilton, and Amida will make UConn a team to look out for though. And if we somehow landed Diamond stone!!! We'd be a force.

Owens was plagued by back and knee issues his entire career. Shame, really. He was a combo forward who could really play when he was healthy. Wasn't the best long range shooter but that was the only weakness. Douglas had a long NBA career.
