It seems pretty clear at this point the ban on travel was done without any coordination whatsoever. That means no provisions were made for the extra TSA workers and health screening personnel necessary to handle this massive influx at the airports. This has turned these airport waiting spaces into virus incubators. Disgraceful

So sorry to hear that. What do you do if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m a physical therapist assistant, the company I work for has a few clinics but one of them had to close. So one of the therapists that’s been there for years is going to take my spot until things go back to normal. It sounds like I’ll have my job back when things go back to normal but who knows how long that’ll be, I’m thinking at least 2 months.

It really sucks because I just graduated in December and I’m sure I’m not going to be able to get another PTA job in the meantime. But gotta keep my head up

Hang in there. Services like yours will bounce back sooner than other industries that are built on discretionary spending.

Thank you, and you’re absolutely right. I just hope I can get an extension on my grace period for my student loans because that ends in June.

The plus side of this is the fact that I won’t be exposed to a 12-15 therapists, their 8-12pts each(most of which are 65+), and the rest of the staff on a daily basis. So my likelihood of catching the virus decreased significantly, in the end that can end up being a blessing.

Sure, it's a double-edged sword when treating the elderly now. Be on standby then. They may need you sooner after all.

my wife works as a health care provider at a school in the city which is now closed until april 20th, now she's trying to see if they'll be sending her to some other location or what for the next month or so, once people start losing their incomes things are really going to get fun

There'll be a huge need for any type of human services, so adjust and just don't sit there and sulk. Look where you may be of service and get a paycheck while you're at it.

Don't worry. The banks have loads of cheap cash to work with now. Their ability to buy back their own stock etc will really make your life better.

The CDC has just recommended NO gatherings of 50 or more people for the NEXT 8 WEEKS!!!
This is going to affect the election, subways, work, and more.

Additionally, CNN just said NYC will shut all bars and (sit down) restaurants beginning Tuesday.

If businesses have access to liquidity, it should allow them to retain staff and keep operating for longer without the fear of running out of money. The question is whether banks, businesses or both decide to hoard the cash instead of distributing it. Most markets with negative rates tend towards the later. That’s where stronger regulations and monitoring is critical, or just a better idea to bypass the whole thing and go to helicopter money. It makes particular sense because this disease will eventually die out, just a question of when.

Remote the vote!

Oregonians have been voting by mail for president since 2000. On Wednesday, Oregon Democrat Sen. Ron Wyden proposed allowing all Americans to vote by mail in case of an emergency, and asked for $500 million to help states get ready for any voter disruptions caused by the now-pandemic coronavirus, The Washington Post reports.

I think you are being a little over optimistic. Huge need for human services? Where? In hospitals? A LOT of businesses are going to shutter permanently. Quite a few others are going to effectively close up shop, pare down staff to "essential personnel" and try to rid this out.

There's always work to be found, sure, but sometimes it's not easy. I think this time it won't be easy, because there will be competition with all the laid off workers. Oh, and all sorts of people who worked in the "gig" economy, the first jobs to experience the slow down, by and large, will all be scrambling for those "human services" jobs.

I'm super fortunate to work in the energy sector right now. Not to be a fear monger - we have had talks of how we are going to maintain in the event of a major portion of our work force getting ill. I'll just say, we aren't prepared for it and i'm legit worried about the infrastructure of other industries that supply "needs".
