If this wasnt a favor to Obi to get him acclimated on his new team early, then why trade him now for this piss poor return? 2 late 2nd rounders 5-6 years from now, lol. We had another year of him under contract, hes a capable backup/spot-starter, and anything could happen injuries or trade wise.
This was 100% a favor. Obi may have asked for the trade himself, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he leaked that tape yelling at Thibs. Dude was done being a ballboy, and nobody should blame him.
We’ll have to see if we have any other move coming for OG, PG, or whoever though, because those guys can play backup PF too. Team is hopefully not done, or else this makes little damn sense.
It makes perfect sense and you got it right IMO. As a favor to a good young player and CAA client Obi was done right by the Knicks. Players around the league see these things and now know that the team looks out.
While deceptive and no fault of his own, Obi had no true value based on real numbers alone.
One can blame Thibs all day but how do you sit a 2x all- star, 2x all-NBA player? Or move Randle for less than a king's ransom just to start Obi. Then we saw how RJ and Obi were't exactly the 2nd coming of Stockton and Malone when playing together.
I'm rooting for Obi in the true sense of "once a Knick, always a Knick" and glad we worked to get him in a great situation.
But it'll be fun as fk if we land OG and see what'll happen when matched up against Obi. Obi vs OG....O sht.
