Broussard also said on sports center that Melo has agreed to meet with Jay-Z and The Russian once a deal is agreed upon.

If they actually convince him to sign, it would be a sadder day for Carmelo than it would for the Knicks.

The long-anticipated trade of Carmelo Anthony will finally occur next week, two sources told NBA.com's David Aldridge on Thursday night.

The three-team deal between the Nets, Nuggets and Pistons would send Anthony, Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton, along with other players, to New Jersey.

It remains to be seen if Anthony will sign an extension with the Nets, but owner Mikhail Prokhorov is confident that he can convince the forward to do so if he acquires him.

Meanwhile, the Nuggets are determined to exhaust every possibility before agreeing to any deal.

That's what we have been hearing for the last month. Nets and Nuggets are working on a deal, the Nets and Nuggets are close to a deal, the Nets and Nuggets will make a deal during the next couple of days, and so on. And in one short sentence, they mention Melos outstanding agreement for signing the extension.
If he really wants to play for the Nets he should sign that damn thing and we get rid of these stupid rumors and speculations and move on.

I am curious as to why they have to wait until next week? Is it only because the Russian doesn't come back to the U.S. until next week?

If Melo decides to sign with NJ he was in it for the money from the beginning. It will be hard for them to bring in CP3 with Rip Hamilton being under contract till 2013. In 2012 Brook Lopez's contract also runs out, someone they are trying to sell Melo on.

Maybe because of the Nets only having 5 players if the trade is agreed to on their current road trip and MLK holiday weekend.

Yea, i mean sure it would suck if we didnt get him, it will make it alot harder to be a championship team since you need two superstars in todays NBA. But if Carmelo is convinved to sign with NJ, I dont think it will be because of their record or players.. it will be because of the looming CBA and his money and he may just play in newark another year to come to NY anyway.

Still, im trying to sound like a unbiased knick fan.. But if i was Carmelo i would hate to play for a team that would be a worser situation then denver and would have a terrible roster. I guess you cant blame the guy if hes all about money though.. Lebron, Wade, and Bosh are the only players to show they arent about the money in the entire NBA.

Truth! We aren't nearly as desperate as we were a year ago this time, we are winning now without him with flexibility to add other pieces like a decent big to play next to Amare. We'll also have our first round pick this year to perhaps find a decent backup at the point. Not to mention keep our young talent in Fields, Gallo and Chandler.

I honestly feel this is a no lose situation for us, if we get him GREAT, if we don't GREAT.

Keep accumulating assets, there are other players to be had out there.

Pretty much it would be Melo's loss. Barring huge shannanigans (ie like the league giving away CP3 to NJ), that team has no aspirations beyond a first and out.

this.
he'd have a depleted team with little talent around him and donnie can finally start making serious moves. i won't mind that at all, let the nets have him.
just a shame to see the coattail rider www popping up again. what's the deal with that leech?
formidable.

Melo is not going to the Nets, they can keep rehashing the same story over and over again until he's a Knick.

Why does everyone sound so glum? These reports confirm what we knew. Anthony hasn't accepted an extension with the nets and will decide only after an agreed upon deal is presented to him. So what?

You are right. Melo would be a nice upgrade to the roster. But we should consider, that he plays on a position, which, right now, is the best and deepest, the Knicks have. With Gallo, Chandler and Williams we have three guys, who played solid and often amazing basketball this season. Sure, Melo would be way better than one of these guys. But would there be a benefit, if we have to trade at least two of them?
Perhaps we should focus on a center and backup PF and PG. Because these are our real needs right now.

Not only that but another plus with him going to a gutted Nets roster is that we can definitively cross off NJ as any competition for the next 10 years. Face it, with just Melo and Lopez (they can forget about being able to afford Paul), they'll suck for a loooooong time.

It would be funny if Melo gives them the middle finger after months of negotiations. Does anyone believe they can make the playoffs this year even if they get Melo now? They are 10-28 and they have to go like 31-13 just to get to .500.

That's a good point. It takes a while to get chemistry and even then, how many wins can the Nets rattle off? I think Carmelo would rather stay in Denver and make a run in the playoffs in a loud building instead of finish off a non-playoff season in Newark.
