I'm kinda hype to see how Odd Future responds...those kids aren't the best rappers out there, but I think a battle would be right up their alleys.

I hope they don't respond at all. That "diss" track isn't even worth a response. I don't know how they could even be offended by something like that since those lines could've been directed at anyone. It's an equivalent of battling someone and talking about anything other than your opponent. What I'd prefer to see them do is put out one of BOBs own album tracks and just relabel it "BOB diss track" since he sons himself with his own music.

Lmao, this is a chance to actually get their names out there. They'd be foolish not to respond and try to get him into a few tracks worth of mentions. It's marketing.

I wished that diss would have came out before the Nardwuar interview with Odd Future just to see him flip it.

Today I got into a Papoose mood and was playing through his mixtapes, damn shame he was so lazy and had no legit work ethic. I wonder how his career would have turned out.

I don't think they need help marketing themselves. They're doing a fine job on their own terms, with no concessions. I dunno, I think it's pointless to respond to a cornball rapper who just released the weakest diss track in the history of diss tracks.

Considering the line "I'll blow up whatever airplane that **** BOB is in" started this, I mean...wouldn't that count as a concession. The diss track was hella weak and the Odd Future clique is still relatively unknown...I don't see why they shouldn't. I don't consider battling a concession personally anyway.

Yes. At least some of hammer's rhymes were specific to jay.

what i mean by no concessions is that they managed to market themselves without buying in and hopping on current trends. they've already managed to garner a cult following and offers from major labels while being themselves.
battling a corny rapper is pointless. they shouldnt even pay him any mind.

Then why say his name in the first place though? It didn't even make sense on the track.

Idk, seemed like a name drop to me. Everyone else who calls names out gets picked on for trying to make a name, why is this any different? Bobby Ray clearly ain't a battle rapper but the whole team could take a step forward if they smack his mic around. Only reason I could see them not doing it is if they're content with their niche...which judging from their appearances and youtube stuff, I could see that being the case actually...But I would really like to see them battle. Young cats with some crazy mind sets and a nice style getting it in.

were the bruno mars and hayley williams name drops as well to try get a rep? i dont think so.
they're just pop culture references.

and i hope that they dont resort to battling. i think they're beyond that. tyler doesnt need to cut his teeth doing battle tracks to gain street cred. hes not interested in street cred. besides you dont get street cred going back after someone like BOB. that'd be like responding to a bruno mars diss.

When Em dissed pop artists he was demonized. No one said anything about street cred...battling rarely if ever establishes "street cred" but it can be entertaining and for virtual unknowns, it is a chance to gain more exposure. I said already I don't think they care about that stuff, but they seem like a cast (Tyler especially) who would thrive in battle tracks and make some entertaining stuff. I don't really care what it does for them in terms of image, popularity or "street cred"...I just think it'd be dope to hear these cats drop some diss records and show off battle bars.

4 million hits in about a month and a half for the yonkers vid alone. no pop collabos...no collabos with hip-hop's big wigs. i dont think tyler needs any help gaining exposure, especially by doing something like battling which is outside their realm.

doing a battle track would be too "hip-hop" for them. they didnt make a name for themselves by being "hip-hop." they didnt follow the path of a typical rapper. they didnt grow up embracing the "culture." they're skaters first and foremost. rap is just something they do and hip-hop is just a genre of music, amongst many, that they listen to. when you read tyler's interviews, very rarely will he list a rapper as a particular influence (outside of maybe eminem). when he talks about music he's feeling or contemporary artists he appreciates, he usually rattles off names of artists like toro y moi, james pants, ariel pink or musicians like roy ayers. thats what i find so interesting about OF, they'll tell you that they dont really like hip-hop and i believe it.

basically, tyler's beyond battle rapping and i hope he keeps it that way. they should continue doing them and building their brand their own way. imo, doing a diss record would be a step back in their progression. i hope they avoid doing that stuff for selfish reasons as well. i dont find battle rapping or diss tracks interesting anymore, especially when the "beef" is manufactured which seems to be the case most the time these days.
