If true, this feeds into the whole Dolan ego thing. He regards the Knicks as his personal plaything and gets mad if he can't have absolute control. Woodson had to fire his agent and show he towed the company line. Lin showing independence by hiring his own publicist, which is part of the his new agency's firm's standing partners, doesn't sit well with them, I guess. Dolan needs to feel like the boss and be in absolute control and own everyone on his staff and team. If he tells you to fire an agent, you obey. This whole ego and "loyalty" bs that Dolan's got going interfering with basketball and business decisions. I hope it's just the Daily News making crap up.

I find it strange that people are not at least remotely irked that LIN RENEGOTIATED the terms of his deal with houston.

They attack melo but melo was just putting voice to what many people already believe. That was some foul sheet that happened there. He negotiates a contract that the knicks were all to happy to match so he goes back to a team he supposedly doesnt want to go to and renegotiates the contract for more money and that team who only sees LIN as a money grab is all to happy to oblige.

So LIN renegotiating a contract that financially hurts the team he supposedly WANTS to be on is OK.

Melo giving voice to what 70% plus people (see espn poll of 140k people) think about LIN's contract is despicable.

I mean if i ran a company and my really good employee came to me with an offer that another company wanted to hire him for 300k when I was paying him 100k and i said cool ill match that you do good work. Then he goes back to that company and he comes back saying they now offered him 500k.

Im saying 'SEE YA!"

This was already discussed. Why would Lin try to renegotiate Houston's offer sheet when Houston was the ONLY team to even give him an offer? It's not like there was a bidding war going on for Lin. He had no leverage to renegotiate at all. There really wasn't that much of a market for him since other GM's figured the Knicks would indeed match any offer. Morey just decided to call the bluff and thus throw a wrench in the Knicks' plans.

How do you know that he did? It could have been the other way around. It could have been Houston that up'd their offer after hearing Woodson in the media say they would match and it was a sure thing. There was no need for Lin to renegotiate, if Houston did it of their own free will. And if Houston up'd their offer, you can't exactly say, "no thanks, I'll take the previous lower offer." If he did that, Houston would remove their offer altogether, saying that Lin had no intention of signing with them and wasting their time. When Houston presented the new higher offer, thanks the the Knicks brass running their mouth on tv, the lower offer was no longer on the table for Lin to sign.

Blame Lin, Morey, Dolan, whoever.

The truth is, if this is all it took to catch the Knicks with their pants down, then they are stupid.

@FisolaNYDN

This isn't about money, it's about Jeremy (I won't play at 85%) Lin ticking off Dolan and the organization that gave him a chance.

^I hope he's trolling, Lin gave the Knicks a chance to make the playoffs... "the organisation that gave him a chance"?!? B*tch please, we should be thankful we didn't have to run TD/Bibby every night...

Agreed. At the end of the day (literally, I guess), no matter who is at fault, Lin needs to be on the roster.

Frank Isola: Going back to Houston a second time for more money likely pushed Dolan over edge. Why else do you think Carmelo called it ridiculous? 4 minutes ago

I don't think so. A lot of people will be too frustrated to come on here and vent. I'll probably break my laptop, so that's why I won't be on.

Lin doesn't own Knicks anything. If Lin is not given a chance here, he will get his chance eventually from some other team, he works hard and he can ball.
What's sad to me is that we could have had them BOTH. Harvard learning from one of the GOAT.

Now we have Fat learning from Drunk.

You know what would piss me off to no end?

If that's all a game to appease someone with power (say an owner) and we fully intend to match at the last minute and THEN their FIOS-Link or whatever breaks down and we miss the deadline...

Or worse yet, we intend to match but to show them who's boss we will wait till the date that WE think is the deadline (with the whole receiving the offer issue) leading the league to rule that we missed the deadline and ending with all involved parties pissed

KnicksGod wrote:It's funny but I would have told you that with his international appeal, financial upside, and his basketball game, there was 0% chance we let him go. Especially considering that we have no young PG prospects or even any quality PG's who are in their prime (that's not Ray Fats). So it'd been a firm 0% if you think about it from every angle.

Now add in that the contract was essentially expected and, it could be argued, actually not as bad as it could have been -- there isn't a fourth year at $15M -- the odds would remain at 0% seemingly.

Now, add in that the Nets are moving into Brooklyn and have an All-Star PG to boast about, and the odds would seemingly be less than ZERO that we let him go.

And given all of that, we sit here today on the brink of epic disaster.

I'd love to say that all is well that ends well but the very fact that we're making this a hard decision when it is so easy -- as the poster above said -- really is a very ominous sign about our team. Very ominous. He should be matched already -- simple deal. Just announce you're matching and then don't actually match to the last minute to harm Houston as much as possible.

I have to think that this is about some way that the negotiation got screwed up and messed with Dolan's pride; otherwise this is a clear and absolute no-brainer that has yet again turned into a circus.

How is this any different or better than Anucha? It's not. It's worse because it directly affects our future and roster.

Not even kidding, I blame Isiah. I mean we have all day and 700 pages, so I don't see the downside of bringing up the Melo trade. For me, the writing was on the wall the minute Dolan flew to Denver, usurped his GM, and lost all leverage. (Note: I love Carmelo. We should have gotten him at any cost. But sending in your owner as negotiator is a horrible decision because it drives up the cost).

Isiah is a horrible decision maker, and this Felton-over-Lin thing is a horrible decision. Do I think Isiah made it? No. Do I think Isiah advised Dolan to get rid of Walsh and hire Woodson & Grunwald? Yes. Do I think the whole Indiana Mafia is unified in throwing Lin under the bus? Absolutely.

Dolan installed this trusted regime on the advice of somebody who has no business giving advice. Is it so shocking they'd all agree to do something like give up Jeremy Lin?
