Willy is good, his contract was great and, even then, his trade value was low and would get lower and lower as time went on. Yes we could've kept him but he is not a starter on a good team and I don't see why he will ever be better than Kanter (who himself is probably a 6th man on a good team given his defensive issues but has less trade value given his salary). Yes two seconds suck and we'll see what we do with them but I'm not going up in arms about it solely because I think a great team will comprise good wings/pg/and a center that can defend and switch out in space for us and WHG (or Kanter) are neither.

Great post that will be largely ignored in this thread.

The league changes and we always seem a step behind. I remember back in the day when big men were valuable we were rolling Othella Harrington and Clarence Weatherspoon out there at Center. We were starved for big men. Now that they're essentially worthless, we stockpile them.

I think we should trade Kyle too. Just looked at our roster. Our two biggest contracts are Noah and Kanter  Give them all the minutes they can handle.

i don't love trade, and i agree with this.

People always see it as us getting burned and than two years later we see how the players we were over hyping are no longer in the league or they play for the Cavs, which has been in the negative news all year. LOL.

I can't wait for all the "i told you so" threads/posts as soon as Willy gets a double double. :banghead:

This trade epitomizes a bird in the hand for two in the bush. Getting someone as good as Willy 2nd round is not close to unheard of but it's pretty rare.

He will opt in. We'll resign KOQ for $15m. And Noah will still be here.

Our centers next year
Kanter $18m
KOQ $15m
Noah $18m

$51m for centers with $17m AAV vs $2m for Willy.

Begley's tweet expressing they still talking about Lee, O'Quinn and Noah gives me reason to believe a firesale is coming.
Begley always said that Knicks would only trade Courtney for a top return, but if they shopping him maybe thats not the case.
Would be cool to see a Frank/Burke starting backcourt

from now on no new front office personnel should ever get the benefit of the doubt. we just have to assume they’re going to pull some dumb **** like this until proven otherwise.

unless they have some great track record like presti or r.c. buford.

Ugh.... why? I can't believe you of all people can't see how not useful his skillset is. Good riddance. Wish we got something better but still not sad to see Willy go.

I think the issue here isn't getting rid of Willy. It's getting rid of him while his value is at an all-time low. That's just strange asset management.

do that draft over billy 100% goes in the first. his label as a second rounder is only a front we gave up two to get him.

This makes perfect sense. Not only will this young gun not keep us from playing old vets who are about to leave this team but we can also try to stay competitive while KP is out for a year by playing Kanter.

WTF Perry and Mills? First you say that the priority is to play the young guys who are athletic and play hard on D.

Then you let our coach play each and every vet before our young guys.

And now you have the guts to trade last year's all-rookie team member for pocket change just to keep playing Kanter and KOQ after we have clearly lost all hope this season and probably the next season as well since KP will be out for a good chunk of it.

Stupid, just stupid... Trade the most valuable assets (Kanter, Lee, KOQ) to contenders for picks and build from the ground up while KP is out.

Hope they just firesale everything and reset to square 1 now

Really best thing to do at this point, I'm talking scorched earth sh*t

If it isn't on a rookie contract or expiring, gtfo. Hard reset that sh*t

He has already failed.

In the "growth and development" year where we could have boosted young players growth and ended up with a top 3 pick, he sat back and watched Jeff mismanage the youth in an attempt to get to the playoffs yet fall miserably short.

I think like most experts are saying we would never get a 1st round pick for Willy even if we did bump his value up slightly and if we did it would be a very late 1st rounder which is pretty much the same value as 2 2nds imo... 1st round picks are scarce in today's NBA.... It just is what it is. His skillset just really isn't that desirable if he can't at least play decent defense which he is far from doing. Maybe Clifford can teach him but I have serious doubts that he ever becomes more than a 15-20 mpg player off the bench.

I am wondering this deal is a precursor to the Orlando deal discussed yesterday. If we get Biyombo for Noah, that would be another big that we need to give time. Maybe they move OQuinn for whatever and completely overhaul big rotation
