He boarded and passed in one motion. That's top level stuff. That takes some kind of court awareness. Maybe his hoops IQ is growing

I'm really paraphrasing here, and I might not be remembering it accurately, but the knock on Knox (Dr Seuss) was that he had decent bball IQ but could drift a bit if he didn't touch the ball, kind of became "uninvolved" which affected his motor.

Now, fixing that is on Knox, but sometimes an organization has to understand what makes a player work

The Knick have been willfully disregarding what makes their rookie contract players work since 2014. KP had such ridiculous gifts that he survived, the rest have all been held back. See, also, vets and kill what you eat.

Quickley has average point guard skills but his 3point shot will be elite. Just having a guy out there with his shot just opens the floor for everybody else. It reminds me of 2012 when we had Steve Novak. We would be down 1 and by the time he came in and subbed out, we would be up 20 lol

Louis King should be on the roster by next week. He's my good friends little brother so I watched him closely in Oregon.

Stretch 4, think Rashard Lewis with a better handle. Jersey kid. Had first-round talent and fits this roster very well.

Lets be real. It will probably take them 50 games to figure out Mitch/Obi/RJ/Quickley /(someone else that can shoot) should be starting.

And by that time, pride becomes a factor, so they will just ride the Payton/Randle/non-shooting lineup to the bloody end.

I'm hoping Thibs has enough sense to do the right thing early on, even before the season starts, and balance the starting lineup with shooters and players who have good chemistry and energy.


At the VERY least, Quickley should replace Payton in the starting lineup. If your PG can't hit a 3, then he better be dynamic as a prime D.Rose or Westbrook.

because quickley is a threat to shoot, you have to play him up. if mitch sets a screen for payton you just fall back and let him shoot. it's not even really about who's better, it's about how it fits.

I enjoyed the come back, Quickley organized well and I'll even (first time ever) give DSJ props for his one on one defence.

However, this clip shows how poor the Cavs line up was.

On the first play the guy initially guarding Mitch wanders vaguely towards the action when Mitch runs past him. It's probably not the first p'n'r/screen the guy has ever had to guard, but maybe it was. Anyway, he ends up in the middle of nowhere. The guy guarding Kevin never notices that Toppin has cut to his side of the floor. The lob is fine, but a pass would have done just as well, and, frankly, Quickley could just have driven past the center and made an uncontested layup. The two guys not guarding ball on the strong side obviously didn't do any communicating either.

On the second play the Cavs stay rigidly in a 2-3 zone. The guard defence is Ok, but the center and weak side baseline player should be doing some rotating, so that the baseline player at least makes a semblence of contesting Kevin and the center can block Toppin's route to the basket.

The defence on the other clip of the Toppin statue-of -liberty jam from RJ's pass is equally poor. It's not that everyone on the Cavs was sucked towards Mitch, they just sucked.

we kinda need knox to be good. his development needs to be prioritized. just from a pure physical standpoint he might be our highest upside player. probably won’t work out but it’s worth a try this season.

knox also played qb in highschool. stuff like that translates, he has more passing acumen then we’ve probably seen.

He really should enter the NF draft - even if just for giggles.

New York Knicks rookie Immanuel Quickley found himself on Wednesday as one of the top trending topics on social media after leading his team to victory in just his second preseason game.

Quickley produced nine points, seven assists and one rebound in 24 minutes off the bench in the 100-93 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. He went cold from the field, converting on just 3-of-11 shots, but finished a team-high plus-19 while on the court.

New York trailed by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter but Quickley helped lead the comeback after outscoring Cleveland 34-13 in the final period. He injected instant energy and effort on both sides of the ball and even dished out six assists alone in the quarter.

Quickley had everyone talking after connecting on an alley-oop with fellow rookie Obi Toppin.

It's hard being an a-hole.. I always found it easy.

RJ seems like a reasonable person but you can tell he HATES losing. I can totally see him saying **** it this is mine. Obi's gonna take his too. That kid also knows how to win. I think we've got two good ones there and Mitch ain't like that but he can play.

Mitch just says, "It's so much fun blocking all this shyt and putting stuff back."
He's very disruptive on defense and yes, we ALL want to see if he can actually shoot.

Yeah this was our kids vs their kids. Back to misery starting Friday going forward with Payton, Randle, and the journeyman vet show.

But we have to acknowledge that they played the third team of one of the worst NBA rosters.

We beat a Cavs team of Matt Mooney, Dean Wade, Levi Randolph, Lamar Stevens and Marquese Bolden.

I'd let him be the primary P&R guy, and Mitch will have to learn to adjust.
Or, hope there's a really reliable place where Obi makes jumpers, and let Mitch set the screens. Or run double screens\misdirects etc

mitch is literally the best pnr player in the league statistically. he is more likely to score as the roll man than anyone else. obi was an average pnr player in college. besides attempting to make obi look better there isn't a point to that. he has to learn to shoot the 3.

Sure. Force Obi into a role he'll suck at. Good idea.

Maybe Mitch needs to learn to make a 12 foot jumper so Obi can be in the P&R half the time.

It's that or never play Obi and Mitch together.

Quickley very well might be a starting PG in this league, it wasn’t even the assist numbers that impressed me last night , it was him directing players on the floor where to go. He had one play where the floor was crowded on one side and directed Mitch to come up to the roll position before he even had the ball back in his hands to run the pick n roll and then set up the lob to Mitch, that’s real PG play.

When he looked off RJ I was in major shock. He then spread the floor and called for a pick from Mitch and finished the lob.

Burks over Bullocks all day, every day. And I usually like defense, but Bullocks just isn't good enough, while Burks can shoot, drive, dish. He's just awful at defense.

Amazing how the lineups rationalize once you remove Randle and Elf.

Not that the team would be good or anything, just that it would make more sense and especially more sense for the development of RJ/Obi/Mitch

Yup,Randle is the common denominator in all of our possible **** lineups.
