Felton's deal is not bad at all. That's why I was furious when the reports surfaced that the Knicks wanted to use Shump to "dump" a deal that's only like 2 years $7-8 mil. As bad as he's been this year (and with the legal problems), he'd still be a good back up PG. That's good value for a back up PG that you can expect a productive 20 mpg out of. Seriously, dumping him at next years deadline shouldn't cost more than a 2nd pick (which we don't have, I know) or maybe not getting back a 2nd rounder in another trade.

And if JR is still playing like he has been for the past few weeks (which isn't even as good as his highest level, pun?), he's on a bargain contract.

In any Melo deal we have to get back multiple picks and have to do a salary dump. Not sure anyone will do that.

In a Chandler trade one pick or salary dump might be enough. In the PHX scenario if you were to trade for the Pacers pick Okafur and dump off JR in the process, that's a huge get in today's nba.

Just some general ideas for next season:

- Trade chandler for a competent starting PG who's at least an average defender

- Trade bargnani at the deadline for something worthwhile similar to granger / turner deal (although prob not as lucrative)

- Let amare expire unless teams come asking with draft picks / viable trade pieces

- Work shumpert into one of these deals unless he prospers under a new coach

- Scour the d league, overseas, summer league for bulking up our front court

Other than that, not much else we can do. Not that there will be many available, but can we technically buy a pick in this draft?

Question to all my knicks fans
1.I don't know if ATL would do that but as nice as Amare is playing do we pull the trigger if they offer us AL Horford.
I've been always a big AL fan, (since he is dominican lol)....
2.You think AL we be a good complement for Melo at the SF, Horford PF (which his natural pos no C) and Tyson C?
3.I don't pretend to know more about basketball that anyone in here, but I believe what we missing is a strong PF that rebound and be dominant on the paint, a playmaker PG and a consisten shooter?...it sounds like a lot but not necessary they have to be superstars, we need players that know their role and fit our needs.
4. My last question is any PG on FA this year that you guys see that could be a true PG for us...what you think of :
1.DJ Augustin
2.Darren Coltson

Thanks for all future input

for those who don't think making the playoffs is important 'cause we'd get swept by miami/indiana.
even assuming that is true, the true value of making the playoffs would be intrinsic in the fact that to get there we have to win a lot of games, therefore our core must be playing well to end the season, therefore all of our players become more tradeable.

if they keep it up, JR, felton (ignoring is legal issues) and amare (barring a new injury) all become tradeable in their own right this offseason.
you might not get a lot for them, but you don't have to sacrifice assets to get rid of them. that is good enough for me.

1st rule of business Raymond Felton Night at the Garden: Unlicensed guns for Knick tickets. Proceeds will go to buying out his $4.5M player option in 2015-6 that he's SURE to take.

2. JR Smith Night at the Garden: Donating tricycles will go towards buying out his $6M player option, a year early.

3. Move Tyson Chandler, Andreas Bargnani, and/or Stat's contract: nearly $50M in cap clogging up the team from FA.

4. James Dolan Night: Dolan sits in a clown costume above a dunk tank.

5. Add Marc Gasol, a decent PG and/or SG to compliment Melo.

6. Make REALGM official Knicks fan center of the universe!

I don't know whether this was discussed before but how would you guys feel if Phil goes after Kobe? Lakers might rather tank another year instead of listening Kobe whine. Obviously it would take us out if 2015 market.

Felton, JR & Amar'e sure.

Wouldn't take us out 2015 contention.

Could still sign Lebron. :D

I was thinking more like Bargnani+JR package.

After what we went though with Amare, I think Phil and Dolan would be weary. It's only 2 years, but if he missed next yr again like Rose did, it's going to backfire big time. If they want to take both Felton and JR who are on the books for that year anyway, you absolutely have to do it. Otherwise, be better to re-up big time in 2015

Remove Woodson and let a real coach raise the value of Felton and JR so we can move them to increase cap space in 2015. Accountability and discipline would do wonders for their game, or they'll crumble. Either way, we need to move them for the future.

I don't think Timmy will ever learn to play Defense, Cleveland wanted Shumpert for Waiters ... In the Offseason try to see if they'll take Hardaway

He's got a quick trigger, he's a gunner ... I wish he would pass the ball once or twice. He went to college for 3 years & His Father was a PG and he doesn't pass at all.

If you look at his splits with Melo on and off the court, it ridiculous. I think Pads his stats in Garbage time.

I'm not going to talk about his defense.

I'd trade him for the rights of Nik Staukis in a Minute.

Stauskas is a much better all around player. I think anyone would do that trade, to be honest.

I'm not ready to trade him, yet. He's still young...still only a rookie playing in a crap system next to crap players. I think that's part of the reason why he's been a gunner on offense. His defense will improve as he gets stronger and is taught how to play defense in an NBA system. I think it's too early to give up hope and trade him...that is, unless we can get a nice draft pick...which isn't happening.

I think its about time that we sell High on one of our Trading commodities

Believe it or not, I feel comfortable with JR being a Knick for the next 6 years.

JR's athletic ability sometimes masks all the boneheaded plays he makes. I just don't see him as being the type of player we can win with. I'll give him until next February.

Return to New York Knicks
