Tha's all I'm saying. That Jimmy Fallon performance was actually dope as hell too tbh.

and all im saying is that i dont think BOB gained him any fans. name recognition maybe, but not much.
their fan bases are on the far opposite ends of the spectrum, so i dont think the BOB "diss" created any converts at all.
like i said, the song was so bad it wasnt even a blip on the radar screen. tyler didnt know how to react, and like many fans, he didnt even know if it was a diss or not.

they are the anti-BOB/lupe/j-cole/kanye/drake/big sean.
their **** is extreme but i hope they usher back in a grittiness/edginess back into the game that i think is sorely missing.

See, I don't mind them bringing back grittiness or edginess to hip hop...but let's be honest...they're not the ones to do it if Raekwon couldn't last year. LOX are making a push, maybe they can. These guys have a niche imo. That's it. They aren't particularly great at anything, they're just unique in this day and age.

You're lumping in a bunch of new artists who aren't all that similar btw. I get what you're saying...I don't see much wrong with J. Cole/Lupe/Kanye...add Wale to that. Yeah I don't think anyone on their ends gives a damn really. Hell I bet there still trying to figure out how Nardwaur got so much information on them for the interview.

OF, outside of earl (and maybe mike g), arent about being "lyrical miracle" rappers, so you're probably right. tyler's mostly focused on production, pissing people off, creating an evil vibe and establishing the OF brand. more musical? i dunno. for a 19 y/o, tyler's knowledge of music in general is vast and he's only scratching the surface behind the boards. i think he has immense potential on the production tip. also because of his appreciation for other genres of music, i think he'll be able to branch out beyond the "urban music" scene.

I don't know if they're that type of gritty. They're more like Kool Keith than like Raekwon gritty.

Yeah Tyler as a producer, I have to give props. When he **** on Airplane by pointing out similar chords and synth sounds in other tracks, I couldn't help but laugh. I was thinking more on the straight up rapping tip though. Earl is definitely my favorite in the group. I'm a big lyrics guy, I get geeked off complex schemes and proper multi's as much as well thought out concepts and pure bars...so I think that's where my disconnect with that whole team comes. I gotta pay more attention to Tyler's work for sure though.

Ha I think these guys have some Wu Tang vibe to em. Thanks for puttin me onto them fellas. They got some potential for sure. Im not all about lyrics, but they have their own feel which is what I find more important these days. Like remi said they have a niche. The beats are nice and they have that hardcore style, which is more my thing.

No problem.

Link to Childish Gambino, for those who don't know this is Troy from Community aka Donald Glover.

I didn't get to read the whole thread but I'm digging Malcolm & Martin plus DJ Revolution is spinning this.

Shawn Chrystopher's IWG3 came out today. Listened to it 1 time, and I'm listening to it again now. He's one of my favorite rappers, but after You and Only You I was expecting something great. Good mixtape, but not great. It's probably going to grow on me though ha.

I wonder what Cudi would rap about if he did stop smoking. Seems like pretty much all of his songs are about weed.

Without a doubt, however as of late he has gotten a lot more popular in terms of rapping. Some people can't stand his Lil Wayne flow, but hey I couldn't care less. Just completely talented all around.

Regarding Shawn Chrystopher he honestly just never did anything for me. Never got into him, nothing ever grabbed.

If Kudi stopped smoking weed that would be fine, it's when he is off coke is when he runs into problems.
